ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN #EnvironmentalFieldTechnician #FieldSpecialist #ReclamationTechnician #HazTechWasteTechnician The river is your office. The forest is your cubicle. What does this career look like? You care about the environment and you want to be part of the solution. You work inside the industry to protect natural habitats. It often involves working outside. What would I do? You are a doer. You study the baseline levels of emissions and then continuously monitor the area for any environmental impacts. You maintain accurate and complete records of field data and the results, and perform environmental site assessments. You also work to clean up any areas that have been contaminated. As an example, your team might begin by mapping and building a number of monitoring stations to test some areas. You’ll gather baseline samples, and then continue to collect samples from these stations on a regular basis, ensuring they are functioning properly. Once you have collected samples, you take them to the laboratory for analysis. This will tell you if there are emission trends you should be worried about, and if the quality levels are above or below legal limits. You then work to prepare a summary report of your findings. Depending on the results, you may start remediation work. You develop plans to remediate the rest of the area under the direction of engineering staff.
