Medal wins for China in Asia’s largest wine competition China has been awarded a total of 18 medals in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA) this year, with over 50% of wines entered winning a DAWA medal. The 2013 edition of the wine competition received more than 2,300 entries from around the world, with a total of 2,023 medal winners. The Decanter Asia Wine Awards aims to recognise quality wines and provide consumers across Asia with a trusted source of recommendations. Co-chaired by Jeannie Cho Lee MW, the first Asian Master of Wine and a Contributing Editor to Decanter, and Steven Spurrier, Chairman of the Decanter World Wine Awards and Decanter’s Consultant Editor, judging took place in Hong Kong on 16 -19 September. Over 40 top wine experts from across Asia made up the professional judging panel to rigorously blind taste wines organised in flights to ensure the very best tasting conditions. China has been awarded two Silver, five Bronze, and 11 Commended medals. The two Silver medals go to Chateau Bolongbao, Beijing 2010 and Greatwall, Chateau Huaxia The Chief Winemaker's Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Changli, Hebei 2009. “We would like to congratulate all winners in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards,” says Sarah Kemp, Decanter Publishing Director. “All wines were tasted blind and judged by a panel of Asia’s finest palates, and only those which represent outstanding quality are endorsed with a Decanter Asia Wine Award medal.” A special digital edition of Decanter magazine featuring the full list of DAWA 2013 results will be released on 13 November for tablet download at the Apple Newsstand and all major digital platforms.
