Key Points to Remember 1.
An institutional staff member may provide a student-athlete or a team with an occasional meal (and transportation to attend the meal) at any location in the locale of the institution (e.g., restaurants) on infrequent and special occasions. (NCAA Bylaw 16.5.1(f)(1))

A booster may provide a student-athlete or a team with an occasional meal (and transportation to attend the meal) at his/her home, on campus, or at a facility that is regularly used for home competition (but may not occur at a restaurant) on infrequent and special occasions. This meal is permitted to be catered. (NCAA Bylaw 16.5.1(f)(2))

A signee may attend an occasional meal prior to the first day of classes only if they have arrived on campus with the intent of staying at the institution to attend classes that semester. (Aug. 28, 1987 Staff Interpretation)

Family members are required to PAY for the value of an occasional meal. (NCAA Bylaw 16.6.1)

Reasonable refreshments (e.g., soft drinks, snacks) may be provided to family (e.g., parents or legal guardians, relatives) in conjunction with educational meetings or celebratory events (e.g. senior night) on an occasional basis for other reasons. (NCAA Bylaw 16.6.1.6)
