In reply to the questions in your letter of Jan 9, which I received Jan 22, I submit the following: The entlY for John Whitlock b 1836? and died in Mahaska Iowa in 1849 was from an EMail item I received ITom Pam Shelton, [email protected] from a query I had made to the internet. She says: "I believe my John James Whitlock (died in Mahaska Co IA in 1849) was the son ofWiIliam Whitlock and Roasanne Shelton but am still looking for documentation of proof These Whitlocks descend from the Whitlock-Christmas line of VA." MGlY Ann Sheppard who married John Whitlock. From Russal Co KY Court Orders, Vol 2 1827-1840, Film 0594407; Page 231 28 Sep 1831 Charles Whitlock of Green Co IL, Attorney in fact for John Whitlock and Marv Ann Whitlock, his wife, sold to Thomas Riggus of Russal Co KY for $36.00 land in Russel Co KY. Page 252 30 Sep 1831 John Whitlock and MGlY Ann Whitlock his wife of Morgan Co IL appointed Charles Whitlock of same their lawful attorney to sell their land in Russal Co KY. (Note there is a difference in the counties where Charles Whitlock practiced law. Perhaps he did so in both.) Other data on Mary Ann .. Mary Ann Sheppard wed John Whitlock 5 Jan 1822 in Adair Co KY. She was born 6 Nov 1798 in Wilkes Co NC, and died 30 Jul1889 in Morgan Co IL. On page 207, HISTORY OF MORGAN CO IL 1878 977.346 H-63 C.l, found in the Jacksonville IL school library Judge Herbert G. Whitlock born in city of Jacksonville, 24 Nov1831, parents John and MGlY (Sheppard) Whitlock, natives respectfully of Virginia and North Carolina. Fanning Familv issues Cynthia Whitlock Apr 12 1830-Sep 9 1896 Married Abraham Fanning in Morgan Co IL on Jan 3 1850 by Justice of Peace Geo Wright.. Mother of at least James Franklin, Mary Catherine Brown (1855-1912), Ellen, and Sarah. In OBIT: Buried in Whitlock Cemetery, Daughter of Luther and Margret Dunbar Whitlock, From Jacksonville Journal of Thursday Sept 17 1896, under Murrayvill Items, Died at her home southeast of this place, Wednesday Sep 9 Mrs Abraham Fanning, aged about 65. Wilson Whitlock b Sep 23 1851 d Oct 11 1940. Born Athensville, died Whitehall IL' married Mary Ellen Rimbley in Morgan Co IL Dec 23 1879 also married Martha Jane Hopper Fanning, widow of James Franklin Fanning on Feb 17 1910 in Morgan Co IL. She divorced Wilson Whitlock Nov 18 1916 for unfaithfullness in 1914. Martha's name of Fanning was restored to her. They had 4 children, Lenoa, Ruth, Eula Lousia, who wed a Marsh, and Larina.
