NOTES ON THE HAWKS n Zac Tillman has gone into double figures in his last two games, now giving him seven career games in double digits. He had never previously done that in consecutive games, and his 15 points against Albany was his first such effort since February 26, 2016 against Rider. Micah Seaborn is nearing becoming the 23rd Hawk to score 1,000 career points at the Division I level, coming into the game against Hofstra with 991 career points. The last Hawk to reach the 1,000-point mark with all of his points coming at Monmouth came in January 2016, when eventual 2,000-point scorer Justin Robinson did it vs. Siena. Je’lon Hornbeak netted his 1,000th career point near the end of last season, with two of his seasons in college basketball coming at the University of Oklahoma. Overall, King Rice has seen four players reach the 1,000-point milestone in their Monmouth careers. Ed Waite accomplished it in Rice’s second season, while Andrew Nicholas and Deon Jones also joined Robinson in scoring over 1,000.

n

Seaborn knocked in 27 points at UConn, a career-best and his 15th career game with 20 or more points. He hit five triples, and scored 20 of his points in the opening half. Seaborn has now reached double figures 53 times in 74 career games played.

n MU has seen seven different starting lineups in the first eight games of the season, with nine different players earning a spot on the floor to start a game to this point. On Monmouth’s roster, 10 players have earned a start at some point in their career, nine of them this season in addition to Zac Tillman, who has totaled 67 starts in his Monmouth career.

n MU senior guard Austin Tilghman made two buzzer beaters in the game against Penn, banking in a runner at the regulation horn to force overtime before hitting a long three at the conclusion of the third overtime to extend it to a fourth session. Last season, Tilghman found himself on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays after hitting a half-court shot to end the first half against Niagara at home. He also drilled a long three-pointer at the first half horn at Iona last season, giving the senior four career buzzer beaters. It’s no secret Monmouth has had success against high-major programs, topping six in the last few seasons. Monmouth possesses wins over UCLA, Notre Dame, USC, Georgetown, Rutgers and Memphis. However, in addition to those victories, MU has found themselves in a close game (within 10 points) six other times during the King Rice era, including two losses at the buzzer and two coming in overtime. MU lost by 10 to St. John’s in 2013 before leading West Virginia in 2014 in the second half. The Hawks were within a possession in the final minute at Maryland in 2014, and fell to Rutgers at the horn at home later that season. The last two tight high-major losses have come at South Carolina last season at the overtime horn, and on Saturday at UConn in the extra session.

TALE OF

MONMOUTH vs THE CAA n Against current members of the CAA, Monmouth has posted an all-time record of 16-17. n Monmouth is 6-1 all-time against Hofstra, including back-to-back season opening wins in 2012 and 2013. n The most wins for MU against a CAA school is six against Hofstra. n The Hawks only have a losing record against three CAA members, including UNC Wilmington, who MU has not played since 1983. n MU has never played four current CAA members (College of Charleston, William & Mary, Elon and James Madison). n Monmouth will play just one CAA opponent this season in Hofstra.

n Monmouth has seen production spread across multiple players to this point in the season, evidenced by the fact that six players have led MU in scoring in a game through eight games (Seaborn, Hammond, Quinn, L. Pillari, Tilghman, Salnave). In the rebounding category, seven different players have snagged a game-high in caroms through eight contests (Seaborn, Tillman, Sarr, Quinn, Traore, Tilghman, Papas). Both of MU’s double-digit rebounds efforts have come from a guard, with Seaborn grabbing 10 against Bucknell and Tilghman collecting 12 vs. Penn.
