NOTES ON THE HAWKS In the win over Marist, Monmouth scored over 90 points in regulation for the first time this season, having previously scored 96 in a four-overtime loss to Penn on 11/25. Four Hawks worked into double figures and eight Hawks scored in the game as MU got to 91 in the 40 minute game.
n
Following strong weeks, Monmouth swept this weeks MAAC awards, with Austin Tilghman earning MAAC Player of the Week while Deion Hammond was named Rookie of the Week. It was the second honor of the season for each player. Tilghman posted his third double-double of the season and scored a career-high 24 points Saturday at Nassau Coliseum against Marist, leading Monmouth in four major categories for the day including points, rebounds (12), assists (6) and steals (3). He preceded that with 20 points against Siena, and shot 54.5% from the field and a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line on the week. In the two games, Tilghman was just shy of averaging a double-double, and posted a line for the week of 22 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and two steals per game. The point guard was on the floor for 74 of a possible 80 minutes. Hammond continued his strong freshman season with another pair of double-figure performances, netting a career-best 24 points with five triples Saturday vs. Marist at Nassau Coliseum. He scored 17 points against Siena on Thursday night while averaging three rebounds per game on the week. Hammond’s five threes vs. Marist notched a career-best, as did his nine made field goals against the Red Foxes.
n
Austin Tilghman posted double-doubles in consecutive games against Marist and Rider, compiling a career-best 24 points against Marist to go with 12 rebounds. Against Rider, Tilghman scored 18 points and dished out 11 assists.
n
Ray Salnave scored in double-digits against Rider for the third time in four games, netting a career-high 19 points in the game. He has now posted six double-figure efforts in his rookie campaign.
n
After using nine different lineup combinations in the first 11 games of the season, King Rice has turned to the lineup of Austin Tilghman, Deion Hammond, Ray Salnave, Mustapha Traore and Diago Quinn to start the last seven consecutive contests. Tilghman has started all but two games this season, while Traore has been out to begin all but three games, having started 17 in a row. Quinn is the only Hawk to start every game this season after having started just once in his first two seasons in the Blue and White.
n
Monmouth is 4-3 at home this season, posting wins over Bucknell, Albany, Manhattan and Siena. Of the three losses, one came in four overtimes to Penn, a second came on a wild last second tip-out off a missed free throw against Hofstra, and the third came in the final minute vs. Iona.
n
n In the win over Siena, Monmouth allowed just 56 Siena points, the lowest for an MU opponent this season. Siena’s 16 made field goals was a season low for MU defensively, and Siena shot 32.7%, the lowest output from a Hawks opponent this year. It marked the first time MU held an opponent under 60 points since Niagara scored 59 in last year’s MAAC quarterfinals on March 3, 2017. This weekend marks the second time MU will play home games one day apart this season. Monmouth previously played back-to-back games at home on 11/25 and 11/27 against Penn and Albany respectively.
