Jacobs Ladder 12” x 12” Cutting Directions for 1 Block ¡
From Background fabric cut: - (2) 5” x 5” Squares (A) - (8) 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” (B)
¡ From Blue fabric cut:
- (2) 5” x 5” squares (C) ¡ From Various fabrics cut:
- (12) 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” squares (D)
Piecing Instructions ¡
Mark a diagonal line on the backside of the (2) Background “A” squares as shown.
¡
Layer (1) Background “A” Square on top of (1) Blue “C” square.
¡
Sew a 1/4” seam on both sides of the drawn line.
¡
Cut in half on the diagonal line. Press towards the Blue triangle. Square up blocks to 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”
¡
Repeat previous (3) steps to make a total of (4) Blue Half Square Triangles (HST)
¡
Layout (2) Background “B” Squares and (2) Various Color “D” Squares as shown.
¡
Sew block into rows pressing towards the Dark “C” Squares.

Sew rows together to make (1) 4 Patch Block. Press in the direction of the arrow. Block should measure 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”

Repeat previous (3) steps to make a total of (4) Background 4-Patch Blocks
¡
Layout (4) Various Color “D” Squares as shown.
¡
Sew block into rows pressing seams in opposite directions.
¡
Sew rows together to make (1) Center 4 Patch Block. Press in the direction of the arrow. Block should measure 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”
¡
Layout the (4) Blue HST’s, (4) Background 4-Patches, and (1) Center 4-Patch as shown.
¡
Sew blocks together in rows, pressing seams in the direction of the arrows.
¡
Sew rows together to make (1) Jacobs Ladder block, Pressing seams in the direction of the arrows. Block should measure 12-1/2” x 12-1/2”
