Sharing Faith Dinners
The Living History Project Listening in Action
Christ Church has been blessed with strong leaders and devoted members since the church was founded in 1828. Recognizing the wealth of memories that the current members of our parish possess, we have chosen to document some of these irreplaceable recollections. We would like to invite you to participate in this effort to record the memories and wisdom of our church elders by serving as an interviewer for one or more of these members. What will be involved for you:
. Attend an information meeting and question and answer session on March 5th after the 11:00 service in the conference room.
. Arrange an interview date with your assigned elder. . Make a sound recording and take notes during your interview. . Take a photo with your interviewee. Turn in your notes, transcription (optional) and sound recording to the church office by April 23rd.
You are invited to participate in one of our Sharing Faith Dinners on Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. When you sign up for a dinner, you will be sorted by zip code if possible and have a potluck meal in a parishioner’s home. Using story cards, you will answer certain questions and listen to others do the same. We will have adult only dinners, dinners for families with children, and the youth will have their own sharing during EYC. So, sign-up and come share. Your host will be in touch.
We believe that we can compile a valuable record of memories and wisdom that will be lost if we don’t take this opportunity. We hope you’ll answer the call to reach out and connect with an elder in our church. The resulting record will be our church’s Living History.
Faith5
Copies of Wescott’s devotional Here I Am Lord will be available in the Atrium throughout Lent. Please take one per family. An envelope for donations for the author will be next to the devotionals.
This Lenten season, mite boxes will be collected to support Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD). ERD serves as the compassionate response of the Episcopal Church to suffering in the world with short-term relief and long-term development programs. Right now the ERD is helping refugees all over the world, most recently partnering with the Diocese of Jerusalem (which includes the Jordan Za'ataari Refugee Camp) and in Europe. Mite boxes will be available Wednesday, March 1 in the atrium and should be returned on Easter Sunday.
What to Say When you Don't Know What to Say A Class for Learning to Listen
Please join us for a six week study during Lent on learning to listen led by Bunny Cox and Nita Caldwell. The class will meet from 5:00 PM -6:00 PM in room 222 beginning March 5.
Here I Am Lord A Lenten Devotional We are excited to announce that this year’s Lenten devotional was authored by our friend and Christ Church parishioner Wescott Youngson. “We know that the Bible gives us the good news that we are beloved members of God’s kingdom, but we often opt instead for the news that comes to us from other outlets, whether via television, print, or the internet. Much of this news is served up with healthy doses of celebrity gossip, political vitriol, pseudo-science and advertising on Facebook feeds everywhere. And into this dizzying cultural mix enter Wescott Youngson’s meditations. Quiet and loud, vulnerable and bold, intimate and public, his thoughts interrupt our daily programming with important reminders to stay awake and know that we are loved.” - Ashley McWatters.
