Romania centre CSABA GAL wins his 50th cap for Romania for the clash against Uruguay. He made his debut as a replacement in 2005 in the 43-12 defeat to Ireland. It will be his 11th Nations Cup match. Uruguay tighthead prop MARIO SAGARIO will win his 23rd cap when he lines out against Romania. SAGARIO is the only Uruguay player to have featured in every Test against Romania, including the sides’ two IRB Nations Cup clashes. With 397 caps in the side that will take on Uruguay, Romania have a noticeable advantage over their South American rivals who can count on just 157 caps in total. Romania also have a sizeable power advantage up front when they can rely on forwards with an average weight of 110kg in contrast to Uruguay’s 99kg. Uruguay however do have a younger side with an average of 25 compared to Romania’s 27.

Friday’s Nations Cup clash between Romania and Uruguay is the 5th match between these two sides. Uruguay are still waiting for their first win in the series, having been on the wrong end of three defeats. Two of the four games were IRB European Nations Cup matches. The sides have drawn once before, in 2010 when Uruguay held Romania to a 21-21 draw in Montevideo. Romania’s domination of the fixture can be seen in the total try tally, where they have scored double the amount of tries than that of Uruguay (10 tries to Uruguay’s 5). The first Test between the two sides was played in 2008 in Bucharest. Romania won that game 10-6 and followed it up a year later with another win over Uruguay (17-11) in Bucharest. The most recent clash between the two sides resulted in a big victory for Romania, who beat the visitors 39-12 in Bucharest.
Form guide

Romania go into the Test having enjoyed mixed form during this year’s European Nations Cup competition. The year started well, with wins over Portugal (15-7 in Bucharest) and Russia (25-0 in Sochi) but defeats against Georgia (19-13 in Bucharest) and Spain (13-12 in Madrid) were a blow. However Romania finished spring on a high, hammering Ukraine 71-0 in Bucharest. Uruguay come into the Test against Romania fresh from a 27-15 win over Brazil in the South American Championship. A 27-26 win over Chile cemented their second place in the competition after a disappointing opening 40-5 defeat to Argentina. Uruguay’s tour to Europe last November was an encouraging start to the season, with the South American side defeating Portugal 16-9 in Lisbon before going down to Spain 16-13 in Madrid.

TURASHVILI, who plays for RC Timisoara, already has three caps to his name for Georgia at Under 19 level. Meanwhile flanker FRANCO LAMANNA will make his debut for Uruguay if he comes on as a replacement against Romania.
