PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MARIA SIMMONS • Rutgers-Newark Senior • Guard • Irvington, NJ/Irvington Simmons earns her first NJAC Player of the Week honor of the season after putting up huge numbers as the Scarlet Raiders split a pair of contests last week. She averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.0 steals to lead Newark in a setback to Ramapo and a win over Penn State-Abington. She recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Roadrunners, while dishing out seven assists and grabbing three steals. She followed up with 17 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a 76-58 nonconference win over PSU-Abington. Simmons currently ranks fourth among all NJAC players in scoring (15.6 ppg), third in assists (6.3 apg) and seventh in steals (2.6 spg).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

TU’ZIAH HALL • New Jersey City University Freshman • Guard • Greenville, NC/Banneker Hall picks up the third NJAC Rookie of the Week honor of her young career after doing everything she could in NJCU’s three setbacks last week. She averaged 20.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.7 steals, and became NJCU’s first rookie in 36 years to hit the 30-point mark in a game. She drained 16 points, grabbed three boards, four steals and three assists against Baruch. She followed up with 15 points, four rebounds, a whopping nine assists and two steals against Kean. She then drained 30 points along with five steals, a rebound and blocked shot against TCNJ, coming just two shy of the rookie single-game scoring mark. Hall went 41.0 percent (23-for-56) from the field and made eight three-point shots. Hall leads all conference rookies and is third among all NJAC players in scoring (15.7 ppg), is second overall in steals (2.9 spg) and ranks seventh in assists (4.0 apg).
