NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
13TH ANNUAL FORE! OUR KIDS GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS Proceeds Support Proactive Alcohol and Drug-Free Student Activities Exceed $13,000 Kimberly, Wis. – October 8, 2015 – The Kimberly Area School District (KASD) is grateful to share that the numbers are in and the FORE! Our Kids Golf Outing held on Thursday, June18, 2015, at the High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood, Wis., raised just over $13,000. Proceeds benefit important student groups within the Kimberly Area School District. Supporting these student programs gave 89 golfers a great reason to hit the green. Additionally, 97 local businesses and organizations supported the event through sponsorships and donations. It was a community-wide effort to make it a successful golf outing. Proceeds from the event fund some of the proactive alcohol and drug-free student groups at KASD: Graduation Celebration, Post Prom, JRG ROCKS and Life-Force at Kimberly High School. “Through the community’s support, we provide many opportunities for our students to have fun and try new things in a drug and alcohol-free environment; it has become a part of our school’s culture” said Mike Rietveld, principal of Kimberly High School. “Proceeds from the FORE! Our Kids Golf Outing allow us to plan activities that encourage students to socialize and celebrate important life events, like prom and graduation, in settings free Golfers Bill Van Berkel, Tom Hartjes, Tim Handrich and Dan Handrich supported the Kimberly Area School District’s FORE! “We’re grateful for the generosity of participants in the FORE! Our Kids Golf Outing,” said Eric Brinkmann, principal of J.R. Gerritts Middle School. “We use the funds to support our ROCKS (Recognizing Our Committed Kids) student group. ROCKS students pledge to be alcohol and drug-free, and ROCKS activities are designed to show students that they can live exciting, fulfilling and rewarding lives without drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Middle school is a critical time for students as they develop healthy habits for the rest of their lives, and the generosity of the participants really makes it possible for us to have a program that more than 95% of kids participate in each year.” Over the past 13 years, the FORE! Our Kids Golf Outing has funded over $120,000 to various youth organizations and activities. Next year’s FORE! Our Kids Golf Outing is scheduled for Thursday, June 16, 2016.
