The 3rd grade Welcomes Humphrey the Hamster to the Lyme School
the
Lyme School
This week upon completion of reading “Friendship According to Humphrey” --a book about how to understand “mad bad s a d ” feelings and how to build a friendship with others -- the 3rd grade was introduced to “The Hamster-withno-name”. Quickly they welcomed him to the class and gave him a proper name -Humphrey. There were of course other names - Froto, Bilbo, Pippin (I think someone has been watching Lord of the Rings) - but ultimately settled on Humphrey. For those that are in despair that they don’t have a class rodent, do not worry I am sure that arrangements could be made to care for Humphrey over the weekend and holidays.
The Ballet of Pick Up and Drop Off
Ok, maybe a ballet is a stretch, but we want to avoid it looking like a mosh pit. Back in the stone age when our school was built -- and by stone age I mean some time prior to 1970-- the thought that we would have so many students being delivered to school by car and that Route 10 would be anything more than a cow path, was unimaginable. But we find our selves here today with that very situation. In order that we maintain a safe and orderly pick up and drop off, we work to follow the following common sense guidelines: Do not linger or leave you car unattended in the driveway If you come in to school with your child, park along route 10 Please be a good role model and use the crosswalks.
Spot Imagination and Knowledge Why is Imagination relevant to success in life? Imagination is the part of us that allows us to process and understand our world, it provides a context for knowledge. A healthy sense of play, a confidence that our ideas are worth exploring, and the knowledge that even our "bad" ideas will be the seed of the next "good" idea, are all skills that I believe we must cultivate. “Artists are explorers whose mission it is to document and observe the world around them. -- Take notes. Collect things. Document findings. Notice patterns. Copy. Trace. Focus on one thing at a time. Record what you are drawn to."
In the afternoon supervise you child and greet them in front of the school. Do not park across the street as this would likely result in your child running across route 10. The driveway is one way traffic only. Do not park in the school parking lot or leave the parking lot through the north entry side. (The side closer to Stella’s) If any of this is confusing don’t worry ballet is often just that...(confusing --at least to me). Come in and I will explain the choreography- but don’t expect much -- I don’t dance.
