Whole lotta stuff going on...
the
Lyme School
Serving the Lyme Community for over 100 years
One of the goals of this newsletter is to share with families and community members what is going on in the school, because, if the students you know are anything like some of the students I know, when you asked, “What you did today?”, the answer is occasionally, “ I dunno.. not much...”. More often the reality keeps me running from class to class participating in a whole lot of “not much”. This week students soaked themselves in a barrel of water (not warm water either) to learn about displacement, learned how to collect arboreal data, released butterflies, met a neuroscientist (thank you, Dr. Cramer) and examined a real brain, learned about living with physical disabilities (thank you, Jeffrey and Luanne), participated in a mock olympic games, and, of course, had lots of fun around school with schoolmates running playing and learning (of course there were some spelling tests along the way, which the third grade has told me I have to be at the NEXT one too!).

Inspiring Kids All School Fundraiser The Lyme School is going to try a new kind of fundraiser this coming school year that will not only make a difference in our school and community, but it will also make a difference nationally and globally. We are working with an organization called Inspiring Kids, a non-profit organization that provides school children with a framework for raising money while allowing them to participate in social outreach and environmental stewardship programs. The fundraiser is a bulb-a-thon (similar to a walk-a-thon or dance-a-thon) where the students will get sponsors for daffodil bulbs that will then be planted by the students at the school and the library. Half of the money raised will be deposited into the students’ class accounts. The other half raised will be split between 2 organizations: Donors Choose (donorschoose.org) and Trees for the Future (treesftf.org). For more information on these organizations, please visit their websites. We are excited to raise money while also having a local, national, and global impact. The students will be asking for sponsors from Oct 4th to Oct 17th. The planting will be held on Oct 19th. Please help your child get sponsors and if you can assist with the planting, please contact Sue Hanlon at 353.9933 or
[email protected].
