Letters into School When sending back forms or letters to school we hope that you appreciate that staff do not have time to look through every child’s book bag every day. With older children please remind them to hand anything to their teachers and with the younger children parents may hand letters and information to the staff on door duties in the morning. Hot School Dinners To make hot dinner choices easier for the children we now have picture menus on the windows in the playground. The posters show the menu’s for the next weeks so we have clearly marked which week we are currently serving from. Please take time with your child to have a look at the meal choices so that they know what they would like before they go into lunch.
Hall of Fame Every Monday two children from each class will be presented with a certificate in assembly. If your child has been chosen they will come home on Friday with an invitation for you to attend the Monday morning assembly. Hall of fame assemblies will be held on alternate weeks for KS1 and KS2 children, starting as below: th KS2 Monday 19 September th KS1 Monday 26 September
Roald Dahl Day On Tuesday, year 4 enjoyed a fantastic Roald Dahl day. Children came dressed as their favourite characters. We enjoyed creating our own Willy Wonka Cookies and finding out all about the life of ‘the greatest story-teller ever’. The whole school brought in 1p coins, and on Wednesday the year 4s lined them up in the playground to see which class could make the longest line. Congratulations to Rowan class – their line stretched 42.37m! In total we raised £157.43 just in 1p coins. This money will be donated to “Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity” which helps to make life better for seriously ill children in the UK. Mr Hawley: The Greatest Umpa Lumpa we know
Meet the Teacher st On Wednesday 21 September from 3.00-3.45pm parents are welcome to come into school to meet with their child’s new teacher. This will give parents a chance to see the environment in which the children spend most of their school day and also a chance to have a chat and get to know their new teacher. Mobile Free Playground At the start of the new school year, can we please remind everyone that our playground is ‘phone free’ when bringing the children into school and collecting them at the end of the day. We have received great support from everyone since introducing this and want this to continue throughout this year. Children love the attention of their parents when saying goodbye and also at the end of the day when being greeted, they want to talk about the day. Therefore could we request that all parents put their phones in bags and pockets as they enter school.
Internet use and gaming Can we please ask that you are mindful about the age appropriate material your child is watching on the internet and games they are playing on their Xbox, Play Stations etc. We can’t stress enough how inappropriate some websites and games are to young children, they not only condone acts of violence but they also contain inappropriate language. Please can parents also be aware of what time their children are switching off their devices. We would recommend that they are removed from bedrooms at night. School Drop off and Pick Up As it is the beginning of a new school year, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents of our school drop off and pick up procedure. The school gates open every day at 8:30am and are closed promptly at 8:45am. If you are collecting more than one child at the end of the day please ensure you collect the youngest first from their class teacher or Nursery. Please note children should be dropped off and picked up by persons over the age of 16 years. Punctuality The bell rings at 8.35am for the doors to open and children to start entering the classrooms. Please note that the second bell is at 8.45am for registration to start when all children should be in their classrooms, the playground empty of parents, and the gates locked. If you do need to speak to a member of staff please arrive in plenty of time to do this, so that the gates can be closed promptly at 8.45am. Professionals working in school We work tirelessly to support our children and families, and staff are always on hand to help with any concerns that you have. These are just a few of the professionals that we call on for their expertise and advice:Educational Psychologist - Mrs Gemma Westwood School Nurse - Mrs Elsa Chadaway Home - School Support Worker - Ms Justine Fitzer Community Social Worker - Mr Adam Benkalai Speech and Language - Mrs Jane Windmill All professionals work very closely with school to ensure the children get the right support they require. Therefore please note that we may discuss any child in school at out multi-agency monthly meetings. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to Mrs Newton. th
