Forced to play the match with some unfit players, it was always going to be a tall order for Valley Rovers to be in contention against a strong Mitchelstown team in this U15 Premier 2 championship first round match on Saturday. Played on their opponents’ home turf, Rovers’ task became even more daunting after conceding four early goals. All the damage was done in this early period, with Rovers’ only point coming from Adam Settini. The second half started better, with an early goal from Rory O’Sullivan and a pointed free by Robert-Sean Sweetnam. Rovers did have more chances in the second half, but failed to capitalise on them. Mitchelstown continued to take their points well, though failed to find the net again due to good defending and a couple of great saves by goalkeeper Mark O’Leary.
Valley Rovers Juvenile AGM Friday the 6th of December 2013, in Knockavilla Hall, at 7:30pm. All parents, mentors and others are welcome to attend. Tea and coffee will be served after.
This was a disappointing end to the season for the under 15s. But with such a small squad of players, it is very difficult to compete against strong opposition like Mitchelstown and great credit is due to the Valley Rovers players who gave their best and never gave up.
