Minor Hurling championship Valley Rovers minor hurlers had a good win over Passage in the first round of the premier 2 hurling championship in a windy Carrigaline on Saturday April 18th at 7 pm. This was a very physical game with the referee’s interpretation of the advantage rule very questionable throughout the game. Passage were fastest out of the blocks with the ball hitting the Valley’s net within 40 seconds of the through in and followed this up with a point from a free from the next puck out. Over the next 10 minutes Sean O Regan put over 4 points all from placed balls. This was followed by a goal from Stephen Lordan in the 12th minute. Passage cut Valley’s lead with a point from play in the 13th minute with another from a free in the 14th minute. A point from play by Sean O Regan in the 19th minute edged Valley’s 2 points in front but Passage struck back with another goal in the 20th minute and a point from a free in the 20th minute also. Valley’s had the better of the last 10 minute with Sean O Regan again converting 2 free’s in the 23rd and 29th minute and Chris O Leary getting a point from play in the 24th minute. Passage got a point from a free in the 26th minute to leave the half time score Valleys 1.08 to Passage 2.05. Valleys started the second half the better with Sean O Regan getting a point from a free in the 2nd minute with Adam Settini adding 2 from play in the 5th and 6th minutes. Passage got a point from a free in the 7th minute. A point from play by Sean O Regan in the 9th minute was cancelled out by a point from play in the 10th minute by Passage. Sean O Regan scored 2 points from frees in the 18th and 19th minute and seemed to have the game under control with a 3 point lead going into the last 7 minutes. Again Passage hit back with a point from a free in the 23rd minute followed by a goal in the 29th minute and a point in the 30th minute. When it looked all over Chris O Leary put over the equalizer and Sean O Regan got 2 more points in injury time to put Valley’s into the next round after the exams out in July. Next up for our minors are the non exam leagues which are played in May and June without the students that are doing exams. Valley Rovers senior footballers are top of Division 1 (Kelleher Shield) after a well deserved victory over Nemo Rangers in Trabeg on Saturday evening. In difficult windy conditions the Rovers lead 0-6 to 0-3 at half time. Jack Walsh opened the scoring for the Rovers on 2 minutes and further points from Eoin Delaney and Fiachra Lynch (2) had the visitors ahead 04 to 0-1 after 16 minutes. Two further points again from Jack and Eoin were matched by the home side to leave the Rovers 3 points ahead at half time. With the strong wind blowing across the field accurate kick passing was difficult to execute. The Rovers kicked the first two point of the second through Gary Farrell and Fiachra. Now trailing by 5 points the city team upped their game and scored 4 unanswered points to leave just one between the sides going into the final 5 minutes. Both sides missed numerous scoring chances before Kevin Canty pointed to give the Rovers a 2 point winning margin 0-9 to 0-7. Team:

Nemo Rangers 0-9 Valley Rovers 1-8
Camogie Valley rovers U12A Ladies Football team recorded an News impressive win against Nemo Rangers on Thursday night in a match played at Nemo. Under 14 ladies football
Playing with a breeze in the first half the girls started brightly and early points from Orla O’ Sullivan and Kate Lynch gave Valleys an early lead. This was further added to by a superb goal from the impressive Aisling Fenelly who also added another point, and at half time Valleys led by 1-5 – 0-1.
Valley Rovers Under 14 ladies football played Keelnameela in their third West Cork league match on Sunday April 12th. Valleys won with a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-6. This maintains the fantastic start that the U14 ladies have made in the 2015 season with three wins out of three. The win was mostly down to brilliant defending by the Valley's defenders and brave goal keeping by Rachel Lordon. But for some wayward shooting and the intervention of the goalpost the margin of victory would have been greater. The girls have 2 remaining league matches (versus Bantry & Rosscarbery) and victory in one of these matches should ensure qualification for the West Cork semi-final. Kim Muckian & Niamh Hurley were both unavailable because of injury and we wish them a speedy recovery. Team Rachel Lordon , Rebecca Murphy, Sarah Lynch, Emma O’Donovan, Shauna Reilly, Carol Cremin, Clare O’Dwyer, Ellen Fennelly, Cliona Riordan, Ellen Fehily, Nicole Callanan, Chloe Burton, Vicki Cuskelly, Clodagh O’Donovan, Jane Mulvihill & Niamh Hales
Turning into the wind the girls knew that they faced a different challenge. Nemo began to dominate around the midfield and closed the gap to 1-5 – 0-6 early on the second half. However it was now that the real spirit of the girls began to kick in and showing an excellent commitment to each other they began to limit Nemo’s chances. The full back line of Alison Kenny, Aisling Donovan and Tara Gilli ensured that Nemo’s goal chances were limited. In front of them Laoise Collins, Kate Lynch and Ellie O’Sullivan began to dominate and Valleys worked their way back into the game. Further points from the hard working Caoimhe McCarthy and Orla O’Sullivan, extended Valleys lead. In the end it was this determination that was the difference between the two teams and Valleys ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-8 – 0-9.This was another excellent performance from the girls against a string team and shows great promise for the League campaign ahead. Valley Rovers: Rhian Dawkins, Alison Kenny, Tara Gilli, Aisling O’Donovan, Aine Ryan, Laoise Collins, Molly Lynch, Ellie O’Sullivan, Kate Lynch (0-1), Sara Higgins, Orla O’Sullivan (0-5,( 0-3 f)), Aisling Fennelly (1-1), Leah Hoey, Caoimhe McCarthy, Niamh Crowley, Molly Collins, Leanne Murphy

St Colums 3-4 Valley Rovers 6-8 Valley Rovers U12B Ladies Football Team began their League campaign with an excellent Victory against St. Colums at Kealkil on Friday Night. Considering the team was composed mainly of U-11 players against a much taller St Colums team this was an excellent result. The girls started a little nervously and St Colums established an early lead. But the girls began to find their stride and a couple of well taken goals from Ciara Taheny got the team back into the match. Valleys then began to dominate around the middle with some excellent tackling around the middle of the pitch by Siofra Kelleher- Barry, Gemma Murphy and Orla Hales allowed Valleys to dominate possession. This allowed Ellen Murphy to drive forward, and she produced a superb display of determination and accurate shooting, to score 2-2 in the first half and with Caoimhe Hurley and Cora Higgins adding further points, Valleys led 4-5 – 2-1 at half time. St Colums started well in the second half with a couple of early scores, but the defence, in which Oonagh Hayes and Hannah Morrissey performed strongly throughout
the game, soon got on top. Valleys began to press on again and with team constantly harrying and chasing their larger opponents, they forced mistakes from St Colums. This enabled Valleys to pull away and two goals from Lucy Callanan extended their advantage. The highlight of the second half was a superb team point from Ciara Taheny which followed an excellent hand passing movement between Sarah Kenny, Maeve O’ Sullivan and Taheny. In the end Valleys were comfortable winners by 6-8 – 3-4. The whole team showed an excellent attitude and worked very hard for each other and this should stand to them in the season ahead.
Valley Rovers: Lauren Keane, Hannah Morrissey, Orla Hales, Oonagh Hayes, Saoifre Kelleher-Barry, Ellen Murphy (2-2), Gemma Murphy, Sinead McCarthy, Lucy Callanan (2-2), Cora Higgins (0-1), Ciara Taheny (2-2), Caoimhe Hurley (0-1), Maeve O’Sullivan, Sarah Kenny, Aoife Dineen, Leah Quinn
