Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Valley Rovers Premier Intermediate hurlers defeated Kanturk in the Quarter Final Replay to set up a semi final clash with old Rivals Ballinhassig on Saturday 19th Sept at 7:45pm in Pairc Ui Rinn. Valleys got off to a great start in this game with Chris O'Leary pointing after 15 seconds and this was quickly followed by points from Richie Butler, John Cottrell and another Chris O'Leary point to put the Rovers four points up within the first five minutes. Kanturk scored their first point on nine minutes before a point from a free from Chris O'Leary restored their four point lead. Kanturk scored the next two points but Kevin Canty and Chris O'Leary (free) responded. Kanturk and Richie Butler traded points before Kanturk pounced to finish a long range free to the net. Kevin Canty and Chris O'Leary scored two more points before an Aidan Walsh point from sideline for Kanturk brought the first half scoring to a close on a score of Valley Rovers: 0-10 to Kanturk: 1-6. Valley Rovers opened the scoring in the second half with a pointed free from Chris O'Leary. Kanturk and Kevin Canty traded quick fire points and 7 minutes later Chris O'Leary added another free. Kanturk had the next three points before another two Chris O’Leary points from frees. Kevin Canty scored a majestic point on 20mins but this was quickly followed by a Kanturk point. With two minutes to go Eoin O'Reilly scored a free from an acute angle with Kanturks only reply being a point from a free to leave the full time score Valley Rovers: 0-17(17) kanturk: 1-12(15).

Camogie The Valley Rovers U10s Camogie team celebrated their hard work during the season, when they attended the Camogie gala finals organised by the Camogie County Board in Coachford on Saturday. This is really a fun day to end the season, but for the Valley girls they had other things on their mind, to play well and score points and goals. The Valley girls took on the Ballinora team, and this game was played with such skill. After rotating the goal keeper, moments before the break, there was a fantastic goal saved to help Valleys go in at the break one goal up. There were a few more goals and points between both sides in the second half. Both teams of similar skill worked hard, marking each other, passing, and some good pucks. It was a great day for all teams, and the girls enjoyed it tremendously. We are so proud of them. The U10s are the feature picture on page one today.

Willie Burke; Cormac Desmond, Noel O’Donovan, Tomás O’Brien; Darragh Murphy, David Lynch, Joseph Lynch; Gary Farrell, Darragh Looney; Darragh Crowley, Jack Walsh, John Cottrell; Chris O’Leary, Kevin Canty, Richie Butler.

The girls can be very proud of their performance on the day, and to score 4-5 and still end up on the losing side showed the difficulty of the challenge that they faced on the day. Glanmire were very complimentary of the Valleys performance after the match and reminded the girls that Valleys had pushed them harder than any team had done all season.

Glanmire U12 - 4-

Valley Rovers Ladies 12A Football team exited the County Championship at the quarter final stage against Glanmire last Saturday morning with a spirited performance against an excellent Glanmire side. The girls had played Glanmire earlier in the year and knew they faced a tough challenge against a team who are unbeaten this year. Glanmire started strongly but girls worked very hard and points from Orla O’Sullivan and Laoise Collins put Valleys ahead. Glanmire responded with three points of their own, and when they followed up with two further goals the situation looked bleak for Valleys as they trailed 2-4 to 0-2. The girl however refused to give up and battled back into the match. Orla O’Sullivan responded with two goals of her own and a point from Ellen Murphy and a further free from Orla left the score 2-5 -2-4 to Glanmire at half time. The second half saw the Valleys girls face a strengthening breeze and Glanmire took full advantage of this to rattle off a series of impressive scores to pull clear. Despite outstanding performances from Tara Gilli, Laoise Collins, Alison Kenny, Orla O’Sullivan and Ellen Murphy, Valleys were unable to get a foothold in the game until it was too late. To their credit the girls never let their heads go down and two goals from Niamh Crowley gave Valleys some hope but Glanmire finished strongly leaving the final score 4-12 to 4-5.

The season is now finished for the girls but they have performed excellently throughout and topped their League in the 12A section and were unlucky to lose the West Cork Final in a replay. Their commitment throughout the year has been first class with excellent attendances at training and the group have improved dramatically over the year and will certainly challenge for honours in the future. Team: Oonagh Hayes, Alison Kenny, Tar Gilli, Aisling O’Donovan, Aine Ryan, Laoise Collins (0-1), Rhian Dawkins, Molly Lynch, Kate Lynch, Ellen Murphy(0-1), Orla O’Sullivan (2-3 (3f), Aisling Fennelly, Niamh Crowley (2-0), Caoimhe McCarthy, Ellie O’Sullivan Subs used: Leah Hoey, Lucy Calnan, Hannah Morrissey, Maebh O’Sullivan

Ladies Football U12 B Valley Rovers 12B 3-5 Clann Na nGael U-12 1-8 Valley Rovers U12B Ladies football team recorded a superb victory over Clan nanGael in their final League game of the season. This result saw the team finish the season top of the West Cork 12C table. This is a superb achievement as the team is primarily chosen from players in the under 11 age bracket. The girls were slow to get to grips with the bigger Clann na nGael team and trailed early on by four points. But slowly but surely they began to believe in themselves, and a well taken goal by Ellie O’Sullivan and a free from Ellen Murphy, levelled the scores. Clann na nGael came back again to add another goal and a point to lead 1-5 to 1-1 at half time. The second half saw the girls raise their game to a

different level and the fought strongly for every ball and began to take control of the game. Ellen Murphy, Siofra Kelleher-Barry and Lucy Calnan began to dominate in the middle and both Ellen and Lucy scored a goal each and Ellen pointed three more frees to push Valleys ahead 2-4 to 1-5. Clann na nGeal were unable to get any momentum as the Valleys girls won most of the 50/50 balls with excellent performances from Lauren Keane, Cora Higgins, Maebh O’Sullivan and Emma O’Sullivan. Ellie O’Sullivan netted again and an excellent point from Sarah Kenny left the final score at 3-5 to 1-8 for Valleys. This was the girls’ best performance of the season, in a League they were entered in to ensure they all the girls got as much experience as possible and to top the League was a great credit to them all. The level of improvement they have shown over the year has been excellent and the spirit and commitment they have shown in all the matches has been a credit to all the girls. TEAM: Leanne Murphy, Sinead McCarthy, Cliona Prendergast, , Emma O’Sullivan, Siofra Kelleher-Barry, Oonagh Hayes Lauren Keane, Ellen Murphy (0-4(f)), Maebh O’Sullivan, Sarah Kenny (0-1), Lucy Calnan (1-0), Cora Higgins, Ellie O’Sullivan (2-0), Caoimhe Hurley, Ciara Taheny.
