THE SERIES: Rutgers-Newark leads the all-time series, 18-17-2. NJCU is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings. LAST MEETING: October 12, 2011 in Newark, NJ. NJCU outshot Rutgers-Newark 2117, including 14-6 in the second half, but suffered the 1-0 loss to the host Scarlet Raiders. Eduardo Tejada had four shots in the loss. Patrick Dawidczyk assisted on the lone R-N goal, feeding Nick Kyprianou in the 33rd minute LAST TIME OUT: On Monday night, NJCU won their 10th game of the season by defeating St. Joseph’s College (LI), 3-1 in a road non-conference game. Eduardo Tejada scored twice and assisted on NJCU’s other goal by Manny Martis. Aboubacar Diawara and Nana Kofi Kusi chipped in assists. Sheldon Parkinson made five saves. EVERYBODY’S STREAKING: NJCU and Rutgers-Newark both enter the game on a four-game winning streak. HUDSON RIVER STUNNER: Last Wednesday, NJCU stunned then #6/7 NYU, 2-1, by scoring two goals in a span of 1:47 in the final minutes of play. Alec Metsch headed in the game-tying score which was shortly followed by Nana Kofi Kusi’s game winner when he tucked a rebound under the crossbar with just 3:45 left to play. METSCH MADNESS: Alec Metsch was named NJAC Rookie of the Week on Monday for week six of the 2012 season. HEY, WE KNOW YOU: Rutgers-Newark senior midfielder Gabriel Avans played for the Gothic Knights for three seasons before transferring. As a Scarlet Raider, Avans has scored four goals this season and leads the team with five assists. From 2009-11 in 47 games he had 14 goals, eight assists and 36 points. His older brother Walter was a 3-time All-NJAC selection for NJCU and is No. 3 in points (89) and No. 2 in goals (39) in program history. R-N head coach Kevin East is NJCU’s all-time winningest coach (123-66-11, 1998-2006).

I have watched his game grow from high school to junior college to now. He really has taken it to the next level and is professional in everything he does. He was a 2010 NJCAA All-Region 19 Division I First-Team selection and the No. 5 ranked player in Region 19. He also was 2010 First-Team Division I All-Garden State Athletic Conference. In 2010 he had one goal, one assist and three points (12 games). In 2009 he tallied three goals and six points in 12 games. • Academics: Major is undeclared. He is minoring in Fitness, Exercise and Sports. He hopes to become an athletic trainer or coach. • High School: Played two seasons of varsity at WWPHS-North for Coach Trevor Warner.
