NO LIMITS TO YOUR SUCCESS
“THIS TEAM IS LIKE A FAMILY, WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER, WE FIGHT, WE MAKEUP, AND WHEN IT ALL COMES DOWN TO IT...WE REALLY LOVE EACH OTHER. TO ME, THIS TEAM MEANS ALWAYS HAVING SOMEONE TO RELY ON AND HAVE MY BACK. RUGBY IS A TEAM SPORT, ONE PLAYER CANNOT PLAY THE GAME ON HER OWN. IT
FACILITIES Neumann University team members are as intense with their compassion as they are with their competitiveness. Integrated with the Institute for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development, Neumann athletics emphasizes Reverence, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship in every sport.
2015-16 RECAP & 2016 SEASON PREVIEW The 2015-2016 school year was one of unprecedented success for Neumann University Women's Rugby Club. Four accomplishments stand above the rest. First and foremost, the team grew together both in terms of improved skill on the field as well as with regard to bonds formed by the team off the field. Second, the team completed a perfect collegiate fall 2015 season. The team went 7-0 and shut out their three tournament opponents en route to capturing their first EPRU Tier II championship. In the spring, the team travelled to Ireland to become Neumann's first-ever athletic team to compete in Europe. The eight-day tour included tours of Ireland's historic sites, its beautiful countryside, three training sessions, and two matches. Finally, the team went 10-2 in the spring 7s season and narrowly lost out on a bid to compete in the NSCRO National 7s championship tournament. The women are looking forward to an amazing fall season. They return a core group of talented and experienced veterans that will lead Neumann into Tier I play. Facing off against national powerhouses such as Mount St. Mary's and Widener, Neumann's resolve will be tested. But the team, along with some dynamic newcomers, is poised to compete.
IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT WE ALWAYS HAVE EACH OTHER TO RELY ON, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD.”
Mirenda Center for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development
Becky Burns
A state-of-the-art facility that serves as home to the university’s 22 NCAA teams. The men’s and women’s basketball teams and the volleyball team play home games in the main gymnasium, which seats approximately 1,200 spectators. The 72,000-square-foot building includes a grand foyer with impressive exhibits that feature five themes that connect sports to the Franciscan tradition: Play, Respect, Beauty, Balance and Reflection. The Mirenda Center houses the “Institute for Sport Spirituality and Character Development®”, the Athletic Department and a fully equipped fitness center and cardio room.
Bruder Athletic Fields The Bruder Athletic Fields are located in close proximity to the Mirenda Center and the residence halls. The men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams play on a lighted turf field that has seating for more than 400 fans. The Bruder baseball and softball fields were renovated for the 2013 season with seating for fans, press boxes and spacious dugouts.
Ice Works Ice Works of Aston, a 1,000 seat facility one mile from campus, serves as home for the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams. IceWorks has four ice surfaces, a full-service restaurant and bar, full-service pro shop, arcade and banquet/party rooms. The ice hockey teams have their own private locker rooms while the coaches have an office available at the rink.
Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Courts The men’s and women’s tennis teams play on the lighted Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Fund Memorial Courts. The complex holds four courts.
