2017 SEASON PREVIEW The 2017 Neumann University softball team will take the field looking to make it three Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championships in a row this season. Last year the Knights knocked off Cabrini University in the conference championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. Offensively, Neumann returns several starters from last year’s championship team. Leading the way for the Knights will be First-team All-CSAC performer Julia Cox. The sophomore catcher will look to improve upon a freshman season where she led the team in batting average (.419), runs (38), hits (52), and total bases (76). The Knights also return second-team All-CSAC player Sarah Murray, who hit .387 last season with nine doubles and 22 RBI. Sophomore Jackie Schneider (OF), junior Kara Grogan (3B) and seniors Becky Guinto (2B) and Melissa Bond (UT) will also be looked upon to provide a spark offensively for Neumann. The team will also be looking for early contributions from incoming freshman Kristina Del Gaiso, Grace Sarrazza, Kate Korte and Jacky Selby. On the mound, the Knights will be led by senior pitcher Haley Broomell. The crafty righty and honorable mention All-CSAC performer went 9-6 last season with a 3.98 ERA in her 16 starts, registering 56 strikeouts in 86.1 innings of work. Neumann will also look to freshmen Taylor Siroui and Jennifer Sieminski to contribute on the bump right away this season.
A state-of-the-art facility that serves as home to the university’s 22 NCAA teams. The men’s and women’s basketball teams and the volleyball team play home games in the main gymnasium, which seats approximately 1,200 spectators. The 72,000-square-foot building includes a grand foyer with impressive exhibits that feature five themes that connect sports to the Franciscan tradition: Play, Respect, Beauty, Balance and Reflection. The Mirenda Center houses the “Institute for Sport Spirituality and Character Development®”, the Athletic Department and a fully equipped fitness center and cardio room.
Bruder Athletic Fields The Bruder Athletic Fields are located in close proximity to the Mirenda Center and the residence halls. The men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams play on a lighted turf field that has seating for more than 400 fans. The Bruder baseball and softball fields were renovated for the 2013 season with seating for fans, press boxes and spacious dugouts.
Ice Works Ice Works of Aston, a 1,000 seat facility one mile from campus, serves as home for the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams. IceWorks has four ice surfaces, a full-service restaurant and bar, full-service pro shop, arcade and banquet/party rooms. The ice hockey teams have their own private locker rooms while the coaches have an office available at the rink.
Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Courts The men’s and women’s tennis teams play on the lighted Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Fund Memorial Courts. The complex holds four courts.
