Coach’s Update Hi, my name is Mike Weersink and I am the incoming head coach of the team this year. I am a second year medical student at Queen’s and have been a member of the team for the past 2 seasons. I have been skiing and racing most of my life including 6 seasons of racing in the OUA. I was also an assistant coach on the team last year so was ready to take over the reins for the 2015-16 season. This year I’ll be working with a strong support team including Stuart Thibert as assistant coach, and a host of other junior athletes handling travel organization, clothing orders and waxing at races. Together we’ve got a great season organized for the team and with so many young leaders on the team Queen’s Nordic will be in great shape moving forward for seasons to come! 2015 marked another solid performance for Queen’s at the OUA championships, again held in North Bay. The men’s team finished a strong 5th overall, highlighted by the top 20 finishes of Colin Foley and Stuart Thibert, and the women’s team took home 6th overall. This year’s team is very young but enthusiastic and has the potential to turn in some great results this season. After such a successful winter training camp the last 2 years our return to Foret Montmorency this fall was highly anticipated and we had a great on-snow camp in November. Although there was not as much snow as last year it is always valuable to get out on snow so early in the season. The team logged long hours on snow around the 2.5 km loop working on skate and classic techniques with some interval workouts thrown in. Foret Montmorency, November 2015
The race schedule for this season is very similar to last year’s. We will be having our team selection camp in Gatineau Park in early January followed by a classic race at the Muskoka Loppet that is always a team favourite. Finally we’ll finish our season with the always-competitive Eastern Canadian Championships before returning to Nakkertok Ski Club for the OUA Championships. Mike Weersink, Head Coach, MD 2018
Athlete Spotlight – Colin Pogue This year we’re profiling another promising rookie athlete, Colin Pogue. Colin is a first year general science student planning to study environmental science. Hailing from Hanover, New Hampshire, Colin is an experienced racer having raced on the Northeast Cup circuit as well as with his high school team. He also enjoys camping, hiking and backpacking. For the last 2 years Colin has been one of the top racers in the state and we are looking forward to see what he can do against the OUA competition!

Message from the Booster Club
Ever since our first Booster Club fundraising campaign in 2003, the team has been able to consistently rely on additional funds to support a wide range of purchases. From uniforms that fit to wax benches that work, the Queen’s Nordic ski team experience has definitely been improved by your donations. This year, the team needs to expand and replenish its waxing arsenal. The team is looking to invest in a drill and brush attachments, and a range of waxes that have been depleted over the years. As we all know, there’s no better feeling than having the fastest skis in the race! On behalf of the team and the Booster Club Board, we’d like to extend a big thank you to those who have donated in the past. We can’t do any of this without your continued support. If you’re able to donate this year it would be greatly appreciated by the team. Donations can be made using the form enclosed with this letter or by visiting the website at https://goo.gl/ChKclS. Be sure to indicate the Nordic Ski Booster Club as the recipient. From the Archives: Alison Douglas, 1996
