Information for NSW/ACT Interschools Volunteer Course Officials
Dear Volunteer Course Official, Thank you for volunteering to be a course official at the upcoming Interschools Snowsports Championships events. Course Officials' Briefings It is very important that volunteers understand the various the course officials positions undertaken to ensure fair and safe events. We recommend that all volunteers read the Course Official Guidelines available on our website at www.interschools.org.au and attend our Course Official Briefing. The following briefings will be conducted by Donna Baker, NSW Interschools Events Manager, and they will be friendly, informative, and cover any questions you also may have. These are not accredited courses, and are conducted in conjunction with the race-‐bib collections prior to the Northern NSW and the Sydney Regional Championships. Option 1. Tuesday 3rd July – 3.30 to 4.30 pm – At Thredbo Alpine Hotel, Townsend Room > meet at the Valley Terminal Bib Collection if you are unsure of where to go. Option 2. Tuesday 10th July – 3.30 to 4.30pm – At the Perisher Ski Tube Terminal > meet in the old Children's Lunch room Course Position Allocations We always attempt to place the Course Officials rosters for the respective events on the website by the Sunday before the event, if not earlier. Course Officials’ rosters are definitely available at the main bib-‐collections, on the Tuesday before. We depend on the school coordinators to get the Volunteers Registration Form back to us by Tuesday 26 June for the Regional events, Wednesday August 15 for the NSW State event and Thursday August 30 for the Australian event. Could you please check the rosters when they become available, and direct any enquiries to Wendy – ph. 0422 240 483, email –
[email protected]. Course Officials Volunteer Waivers Volunteer Course Officials must complete an online waiver form. To complete your waiver, go to the NSW Interschools website via www.interschools.org.au and click on the tab for the Championships page you are volunteer for, a tab will then appear for “Volunteer Waiver Form”.
Volunteers Package We encourage all course officials to bring a small backpack when you are scheduled on-‐course. All course officials will receive a package of material to be taken on-‐mountain. It includes a number of snacks (“Snowy Mountains Cookies” & chocolate bar/s) plus a bottle of water and official's folder, plus a radio for certain course positions. All course officials also receive a (very) bright yellow vest, which must be worn at all times on-‐course. Please ensure that you return them at the end of the event, along with all folders, pencils, etc. Lift Ticket & Volunteer Package Collection At Perisher for the Travelplan Ski & Westpac Sydney, Subaru ACT-‐Southern NSW, and Subaru Australian Championships,, your FREE-‐OF-‐CHARGE lift ticket and officials’ package is picked up from our Interschools Race Room. The location of the race-‐room is dependent on where the course is on that particular day, at either the Blue Cow Bistro at Bluecow if we are competing on a course at Blue Cow or Guthega or if we are on Front Valley at Perisher, we are in the old Children's Lunch room opposite the ticket offices in the Ski tube Terminal (look for the Interschool signs). PLEASE NOTE that if you are arriving at the resort from Bullocks Flat > please proceed directly to a Perisher Representative standing near the Train Entry Gate (NOT the ticket office, but pretty close to it), at approx. 10 minutes before the departure of each train, from very early in the morning. They will have a daily updated list of course officials with them and will allow you on the train if your name is on the volunteer roster. You will then need to travel to Blue Cow or Perisher to collect your lift ticket and volunteer package. PLEASE ALSO NOTE that if you are arriving at the resort from Perisher and you need to travel to Blue Cow for your course, you do not need to check in at Perisher to travel on the train as trains from Perisher and Blue Cow are free of charge. At Thredbo for the Travelplan Ski & Westpac Northern and Subaru NSW State Championships, your FREE-‐OF-‐CHARGE lift ticket can officials’ package is picked up from our Interschools race-‐room, which will be located outside the main ticket office at the Valley Terminal (in our undercover area). Course Official Check In Course officials are required at the top of each course 15 minutes prior to the stated course inspection time so please check into the Race Office at least 30 – 45 minutes beforehand to allow yourself time to be on course prior to the start of the scheduled course inspection. As always, we remain eternally optimistic, and collectively we know that it all works in the end! Thank you once again for your assistance and willingness to help out. Yours Sincerely, Wendy Pinkerton – 0422 240 483 NSW Interschools Snowsports.
