Nursery Newsletter Summer 1 2016 Personal, Social and Emotional Development Firstly we would like to give our Easter starters a huge welcome! We hope you have enjoyed your first few weeks at Bothal Primary Nursery. When reading Traditional Tales this half term we are going to be talking about the characters feelings and actions within the story. We are all friends in Nursery; we are going to talk about how we can be a special friend.

Physical development We are continuing to practice writing our name using our name cards. We have started to learn about keeping healthy, learning about the effect exercise has on our bodies. We are going to be practicing our ball skills; throwing and catching.

You can help by … We are encouraging children to speak about what they do when they are not at nursery, if your child has any news/ done something special, please encourage your child to tell us about this.

You can help by… Encouraging/helping your child to write their name. Talking to your child about what they are eating, pointing out healthy foods!

Literacy This half term we are learning about Traditional Tales. We are focusing on the structure of stories; the beginning, middle and end of each story. We have already started learning about reading from left to right and top to bottom.

Expressive Arts and Design We are going to be continuing with our junk modelling this half term. We plan to build castles using our imagination to think of our own castle ideas! We are then planning on making boats, thinking about what materials we think will be best for our boat, then experimenting if they float!

You can help by … When you read to your child point to each word while you read, asking your child which traditional tale they have been learning each week. Ask your child if they can retell the story to you.

Please remember to label your child’s packed lunch as some children have the same packed lunch box. Please avoid putting food with nuts in. With the warmer weather (hopefully) coming, please ensure your child’s jumper/cardigan is labelled.

Communication and Language We currently have two role play areas; The Giant’s Castle from Jack and the Beanstalk and the Little Old Lady and Little Old Man’s House from the Ginger Bread Man. We are acting out the different stories in these areas, each child taking on a role from the story. You can help by... You can help by… Looking out for shapes in your home or when you are out and about. Counting with your child and saying how many objects you have counted.
