Peter M. Whitlock 3804 Kilarney Street Port Coquitlam, B.C. Canada, V3B 3G6 Dear Peter, Hope all is well for you and your family. I have been working on several projects and have accumulated many odds and ends that I"thought I'd send to you. First of all I was going through some old papers of mine and found some papers on the family of Brand \fhitlock. Several years ago when I had just started with genealogy, I was interested in the possibility of being related to Brand. At the local college library I found the book, "Brand Whitlock, a Hero in Spite of Himself" by Robert Crunden. From the bibliography I was able to send away for a section of genealogical papers from the papers of Brand Whitlock at the Library of Congress'. You probab ty have already seen these but just in case I thought I'd send them. Just before my last letter to you I had sent away for the Civil War military records of David L., John M., and James S. Whitlock the sons of Thomas and; Malinda Shirk Whitlock. They seem to have all been members of the 1st Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War and all were captured and pardoned at the Battle of Lexington Missouri in 1861. Also please note that I ended up with the records of a James L. Whitlock instead of my James S. Whitlock. This James L. was only 18 in 1861, my James S. would have been 24. But in a little bit of luck there was a card for James Whitlock filed with the records of John M. Whitlock, to get all of this straight,
that could be my James I'm not sure I do!
Also I have been working on your questions my last letter. Here~ what I found.

I hope you are able
the marriage
records
I sent with
I
1.
Donna M. Whitlock
& Elmer H. Ashmead md; 16 Nov 1904.
This Donna M. is
not the former wife of Isaac C. Whitlock as theylwere still married as of 1910. Also Elmer Ashmead was only 30 in 1900 while Donna would have been 52. I think that the Donna M. refered to on the marriage rec6rd may be the daughter listed as Myrtle Whitlock, born Dec 1881. To help cleaf this up I'm going to send for the marriage certificate.
2. On the marriage of John M. Whitlock & Nancy Cooberly, I believe you are right that Nancy must have been the first wife of John M. who died pre 1865. This is somewhat a mystery as I have yet to find a census listing for either wife or John M. after he left his parents. According to the history of Vermilion county, John M. Whitlock lived in Eugene, Indiana but I have not found a listing. 3. The marriage of Samuel Whitlock to Orissa L. Lee has me stumped as well. I found a listing of them both in Prarie Creek twp., Vigo Co., Indiana in 1900, but I could find no listing for a John Whitlock or Rebecca Malone Whitlock as his parents. I checked both Illinois and Indiana from 1850 to 1900. I plan to send for the marriage ce~tificate incase there was an error in this information. There is a slight possibility that this might be another son of James S. and Philura Malone Vhitlock~ but he has never shown up on a census so I I I doubt it. After checking the 1850 Census I found that you were correct thatl Ambrose did live to his 90's. He apparently ~lso remarried as his wife Elizabeth
Whitlock was
about 15 years his junior. IAlso aftet some checking I have not fbund any additional information on Dave BrubecR's wife, Iola Whitlock Brub~ck. I am sending you the address of his Home a~d his record company. I think if you send him a letter on your Whitlock GeJealogical Reseach letterhead it might get a better
tesponse.
