Ohio Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors Meeting August 17, 2015 Directors present: Lisa Alley, Rod Atherton, Clark Bradley, Vic Clark, Hank Clason, Chris Darnell, Ed Dingledine, Candi Fites, Bill Flarida, Kyle Flatter, Elizabeth Gorski, Randy Jacobs, Binnie Ann Masters, Brent Maxwell, Dr. Dave McDonald, Cindy Morehead , Kristine Nagy, Judd Paul, Alan Potts, Don Recchiuti, Skip Salome, George Seanor, Chuck Smith, Denny Thorsell, Dan Trein, Brent Tincher, Greg Tordoff, Shane Watson and Randy Wilson. Absent Directors: Kelli Diaz, Wayne Erwin, Shawn Flarida, Bob Hexter, Beth Himes, Roger Landis, Fritz Leeman, Ron McCarty, and Todd Salome. President Hank Clason called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Introduction of Guests The following were introduced as guests: Lynn Bruce, Ted Handel, Russ Faulhaber, Barbara Aitken, Rick Cecil, Terri Tisch and Tina Kerns. Lynn Bruce made a presentation on the Boots and Buckeyes event at the 2015 Congress. Minutes Brent Maxwell made a motioned to accept the June 2015 minutes. 2nd by Shane Watson. Motion passed. Treasurer’s Report Vic Clark reported on the OQHA financial statements. The net income as of July 31, 2015 is $ 1,950,962.41 which represents a 7.9% increase from 2014. Elizabeth Gorski made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report. 2nd by Alan Potts. Motion passed. Tri-Chairmen Report Scott Myers reported on the Tri-Chairmen meeting held earlier: 

Scott reported that the Commercial Exhibitors and Corporate Sponsors are on track for the 2015 Congress.



The new Denny Hales arena fence will be installed this week at the Ohio Expo Center.



There is an initiative to have several new permanent signs created for the Congress.



There is discussion on creating a midway between the new Adequan barn and the arenas. They are also working on a new exit strategy to accommodate the new barn.

There will be a free country concert following the PBR. OQHA has signed a contract with Keith Anderson and will be utilizing help from the liaison at the Richwood Bank.



The Pattern Committee has met and identified the patterns. They should be finalized and released on October 1, 2015.



The stall assignment will be done at the Richwood office on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. The Tri-Chair determined that the hierarchy will be Corporate Partners, Team Arena Sponsors and then Directors.



OQHA has partnered with Standard Parking to launch a pilot program of selling Congress parking passes online.

Skip Salome made a motion to accept the Tri-Chairmen report. 2nd by Lisa Alley.

OHIO COMMITTEE REPORTS Horse Show Advisory Dan Trein advised that the committee is recommending that points be counted during all horse show days during the qualifying period. After discussion, it was determined that this would be tabled and determined at a later date. Ohio News Danielle Stephenson introduced the new Marketing Intern, Barbara Aitken. Danielle also discussed the various marketing initiatives for this year’s Congress. There will be several radio and tv spots promoting the Congress, as well as social media promotions. Danielle reported that sales for the souvenir program were going well and the advertising deadline is August 31, 2015.

Public Policy Skip Salome reported that he and Scott had attended meetings with the various security personnel, Cox Concessions and the Mayor’s office. Skip also stated that they are continuing to visit potential new office locations.

Scholarship Elizabeth Gorski reported that more teams participated in this year’s golf outing. After expenses, over $ 6,000 was raised for scholarships.

Rules Tina Kerns petitioned to the OQHA Board that the rules be changed for the Select Amateur classes when they are combined with an Open Amateur class. There was discussion on the issue and it was referred to the Horse Show Advisory Committee.

ASSOCIATION REPORTS Amateur Justin Billings recapped the numbers from the Buckeye shows. Entries totaled over 13,000 along with 718 stalls. The show continues be a great success.

NOQHA Candi Fites reported that the NOQA Futurity is scheduled for Labor Day weekend at Eden Park. There is a revised showbill online. EOQHA Brent Maxwell reported that EOQHA Futurity will be held September 12-13 at the Ohio Expo Center. Ohio Buckskin Association Ted Handel stated that the IBHA World show’s entries will slightly up this year. He also reported that the Futurity will be held September 12-13, 2015. Youth Chris Darnell reported on the results of the Ohio Youth team at the AQHYA World Show. NEW BUSINESS Scott reported that OQHA needed to nominate their AQHA Most Valuable Professional.  Clark Bradley was nominated by Dan Trein. 2nd by Brent Maxwell 

Judd Paul was nominated by Brent Maxwell. 2nd Kyle Flatter



Art O’Brien was nominated by Don Recchuiti. 2nd by Lisa Alley.

A vote was taken and Clark Bradley was nominated to represent Ohio.
