Ohio Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors Meeting June 16, 2014 Directors present: Lisa Alley, Rod Atherton, Hank Clason, Chris Darnell, Wayne Erwin, Candi Fites, Elizabeth Gorski, Randy Jacobs, Roger Landis, Binnie Ann Masters, Brent Maxwell, Ron McCarty, Dr. Dave McDonald, Cindy Morehead, Kristine Nagy, Alan Potts, Don Recchiuti, George Seanor, Skip Salome, Todd Salome, Chuck Smith, Denny Thorsell, Greg Tordoff, Dan Trein, Mike Vargo, and Shane Watson. Excused Directors: Clark Bradley, Vic Clark, Kelli Diaz, Ed Dingledine, Bill Flarida, Shawn Flarida, Bob Hexter, Beth Himes, Fritz Leeman, Judd Paul, Brent Tincher and Randy Wilson. President Chris Darnell called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. A moment of silence was observed for Charlie Menker. President Chris Darnell congratulated Chuck Smith on being elected as Vice President for NCHA. Introduction of Guests Mark Watkins was introduced as a guest. Minutes Alan Potts made a motioned to accept the May 2014 minutes. 2nd by Brent Maxwell. Motion passed. Tri-Chairmen Report Scott Myers reported on the Tri-Chairmen meeting held earlier that day: Bob Kiser Scott reported that Bob Kiser will return to the Congress to help install the arena footing. Building Initiative There has been a Project Manager and Architect assigned to the OEC building project. Scott reported that although every effort has been made on OQHA’s part, the new stalls will probably not be installed in time for the 2014 Congress. Crew Concert Rascal Flatts turned down the bid for the concert. There is now an effort try to sign Miranda Lambert. NRHA Scott had a meeting with several NRHA officials. The new reining initiatives are being finalized.

Executive Committee Brent Maxwell reported on the meeting held earlier that day: Economic Impact Proposal Grotta Marketing Research, LLC has submitted a bid to conduct a comprehensive economic impact analysis for the Congress. After board discussion, Dan Trein made a motion to spend up to $ 7,000 for the research. 2nd by Todd Salome. Motion passed. AQHA Youth World Show In conjunction with the Finance Committee, the following was recommended for the Youth World: $ 300 stipend for advisors attending the AQHYA show. $ 500 stipend per exhibitor that will attend the AQHYA show. $ 1,200 (approximately) allocated for night watchman. Hank Clason made a motion to accept the Executive Committee’s Youth World Show recommendations. 2nd by Cindy Morehead. Motion passed. OHIO COMMITTEE REPORTS Research Dr. Dave McDonald presented a request of support from The Ohio State University. This would be an annual $ 5,000 donation for 5 years that would support equine resident research projects. The name would be The Ohio Quarter Horse Association Equine Resident Research Fund. Alan Potts made a motion to allocate funds for the OSU research project. 2nd by Brent Maxwell. Motion passed. Rules Elizabeth Gorski read the following as a 3rd reading: Article V, Section 12 Because important Association business is conducted at all regularly scheduled OQHA meetings, attendance and input from all Directors is expected and very important. As such, any yearly Congress Director Benefits will be earned once a Director has attended 4 regularly scheduled meetings from the February regular meeting (conducted after the annual meeting), through the September regular meeting. Hank Clason made a motion to table the vote on this rule change until the August meeting. 2nd by Roger Landis. A vote was taken and the motion was defeated. Alan Potts made a motion to accept the rule as read. 2nd by Lisa Alley. A vote was taken and the motion passed. Trail Ride Todd Salome reported that the trail ride is scheduled for June 20 - 22, 2014 and if the weather cooperates, it will be a record setting year for attendance. Vet Coordinator Dr. Dave McDonald reported that we will no longer be using the Fifth District Vets to cover the night shifts at the Congress. Dr. Cumper from Saginaw Valley Equine Clinic will already be on the grounds and has agreed to cover the night shift at a reduced rate. Youth Lauren Diaz discussed all the youth efforts for the upcoming AQHYA world show. The theme this year is “Operation Success”. The details are being finalized for the team outfits and stall fronts. ASSOCIATION REPORTS NOQHA Candi Fites reported that 280 stalls have been reserved for the June 19-22 show. Page | 2
OAQHA Marla Atherton reported that the details are being finalized for the Little Buckeye and the Buckeye Classic horse shows. Old Business Scott announced that an offer has been made to hire a new employee for the Public Relations/Communication Coordinator position. There is a verbal agreement with the candidate. Chris Darnell reminded the board members to reserve their box seats for the Congress ticketed events by July 1, 2014. New Business Dan Trein and Chris Darnell reported on a meeting they attended for the AQHA Show Strategic Task Force. Dan stated that it was recommended that there be stakes classes added to the AQHA World Show. Chris Darnell stated that the Nominating Committee needed to be formed at this meeting. The following were elected: Hank Clason by Roger Landis and Elizabeth Gorski Greg Tordoff by Mike Vargo and Dan Trein Alan Potts by Don Recchiuti and Binnie Ann Masters Shane Watson by Candi Fites and Lisa Alley Cindy Morehead by Brent Maxwell and Hank Clason Don Recchiuti by Dr. Dave McDonald and Lisa Alley Elizabeth Gorski by Dan Trein and Todd Salome The newly formed Nominating Committee met and named Shane Watson chair of the committee.
