Greetings From the Athletic Director... Greetings... Welcome to this overview of the SUNY College at Old Westbury Department of Athletics! We are a 12-team athletic program that competes on the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Skyline Conference. We are proud of our 12 athletic teams, their competent and inspiring coaches and the more than 200 student-athletes who make up the proud athletic community of our college. The experience of a student-athlete is a unique one and we ensure that our student-athletes receive every possible benefit of this experience. The life of a student-athlete includes working with their coaches and their team to achieve the strongest athletic performance and highest standard of excellence possible in their sport. Along the way, our student-athletes hone their athletic skills and learn leadership skills, learn discipline and learn how to be part of a positive team. Student-athletes are students first, so keeping academics strong is always a priority whether it includes ensuring that student-athletes bring their studies to away games and/or connecting student-athletes with the best academic adviser or the best tutor for them. Our student-athletes graduate with much to show for their time at Old Westbury. They will have excelled academically and athletically and they will have developed many valuable skills in leadership, time management, self-discipline and teamwork that makes them very marketable candidates in their chosen fields. Our goal is to win Skyline Conference and national championships in every sport. Our track record for participation in Skyline Conference and ECAC post-season competition is strong and gets stronger every season. We work hard to achieve the best in each sport while ensuring that we exhibit the strongest sportsmanship ethic possible. We hope you will join the strong and excelling athletic community in the Department of Athletics at SUNY College at Old Westbury!! Yours in sport, ML Langlie, Ph.D. Interim Athletic Director Vice President for Student Affairs State University of New York, College at Old Westbury

2010-11 Women’s Basketball Media Guide

Season Outlook Entering his eighth season at the helm for the SUNY College at Old Westbury women’s basketball team, head coach Michael Krasnoff begins the 2010-11 campaign with all the pieces aligned to make a run at the Skyline Conference competition. Krasnoff is five wins away from joining 100-win club and this season will be about continuing to build the program and return to Old Westbury’s winning ways. In 2008-09, the team posted a program best 18-10 mark with a bid to the ECAC tournament. Old Westbury received 54 points to place fourth in the 2010-11 Skyline Conference preseason poll. The Panthers finished last season in a three way tie for sixth place in the conference with a 12-13 record, including a 7-11 mark against Skyline Conference opponents. Old Westbury will be led by senior forward Brittany Jones, who registered seven double-doubles last year after averaging 10.9 points (15th in Skyline Conference) and 9.5 rebounds (5th in Skyline Conference). Jones will be asked to solidify a defense that ranked nationally in steals (33rd) and blocks (41st). She ranked fifth in the Skyline with an average of 2.86 steals per game. The Panthers return five of 13 players from the 2009-10 squad and welcomed a new group of freshmen and transfers that will be heavily relied on to make an impact. Old Westbury returns 22.4 of 71.6 points from a season ago, with the departure of standout guard Krystina Agard (23.2 ppg) and graduation of Avery Josey (11.0 ppg) and Carlie Moore (9.9 ppg). Jones, senior forward Shannon Gilly and sophomore center Abigail Williams join forces as captains of the team and will anchor the low block. All three display the characteristics needed to be vocal and emotional leaders and are all wellrespected by their teammates. Gilly enters her fourth season as a Panther and will be relied on for her defensive presence on the floor. Last year, she averaged 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals over 22 games (14 starts). Williams gave the Panthers a boost off the bench while also starting in 13 games as a freshman. She averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 points and 0.95 steals per game in 23 appearances. Leadership will also be counted on from sophomore guard LeeOndrea Lee and classmate forward Chutney Burrowes, who round out the returning five from the 2009-10 squad. Burrowes-Lee gave the Panthers limited production last year and will be expected to step up in their second year with the program. Arriving on campus is a group of nine newcomers, consisting of four transfers and five freshmen. Freshman Kim Weathers will have the duties of spearheading the Green and Ivory’s offensive attack. The 5-3 point guard earned All-Long Island First-Team honors last year as a senior at Wyandanch High School. Weathers will be teamed up with sharpshooting classmate Deslyn Applewhaite. Applewhaite has displayed strong shooting skills during practice and will be expected to knock down big shots all season long.

Overall

Krasnoff is the chief architect of the women's basketball program at Old Westbury that was floundering when he joined the Old Westbury Athletic staff ten years ago and is now among the most respected programs in the conference. In 2008-09, OW ranked sixth in the nation in scoring (77.5 ppg), followed by 35th (71.6 ppg) in 2009-10. Krasnoff was named the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year in 2007-08, despite registering a record of 12-14. Following the 2007-08 season, Krasnoff registered a program best 18-10 record in 2008-09, making its seventh consecutive Skyline Conference Championship Tournament appearance and second ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament appearance. Over the past three seasons, Krasnoff produced three scorers that ranked among the nation’s best. In 2007-08, Pamela Robinson ranked 2nd at 23.7 points per game, followed by 6th in 2008-09 with an average of 21.8 points per game to go along with 19.0 points from her backcourt mate Samantha Johnson. In 2009-10, freshman Krystina Agard ranked 6th at 23.2 points, good enough for ECAC and Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year accolades in addition to All-Skyline First-Team honors. Coach Krasnoff 's success at Old Westbury was built upon prior coaching experiences; first as a Head Coach at Valley Stream North High School and later as a Head Coach for the Long Island Silver Bullets where he spent six seasons coaching highly competitive AAU basketball and helped usher a number of players on to the college ranks. In addition, Coach Krasnoff 's teaching skills and knowledge of the game were cultivated during many years spent as an instructor at the prestigious Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp where he worked with some of the best minds in basketball. Krasnoff and his wife reside in Franklin Square, New York and have one daughter and three sons.
