Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate CARE in the hallways by practicing positive and negative scenarios and making observations of others with 100% accuracy. Discuss and Model Positive Examples: 1. Student is accountable by having the agenda book filled out completely and signed while walking in the hallway (to the right side) directly to the desired destination when student sees a teacher trying to open the door with his/her hands full with paper, computer, and a lunch box. Student is compassionate and opens the door for the teacher and continues to move with purpose directly to the destination. When arriving back to class, student enters quietly and has teacher sign the agenda book with the appropriate time returned. 2. Your teacher sends you and a buddy to the bathroom. Be accountable, respectful and engaged! Walk quietly so as not to disturb others (soft steps and quiet voices). If you pass someone you know in the hallway, wave and continue to destination. Use the restroom and return back to class quietly. 3. Your teacher sends you to get a drink using the water fountain. Be engaged! Use the mouth fountain appropriately and keep hands away

from the water bottle sensor. Return to class quietly. Discuss and Model Negative Examples: 1. Class is walking to the bathroom through the halls while another class is on their way to specials. (Students in each line walk across the hall to say hi and chat with their friends in the other class and get a book out of their locker they forgot to get in the morning) What could each student in line have done to be more respectful and engaged? 2. Your teacher sends you and a buddy to the bathroom. You run to get there and are singing loudly to your favorite Justin Beiber song. Your buddy is taking a long time so you leave them there and decide to go get a drink of water. What could you have done differently to be respectful? 3. Your teacher sends you to the water fountain to get a drink of water. You forget to take your pass/agenda book and when you get there, you realize you have pen ink on your hand. You decide to rinse off your hand in the water bottle sensor area. Water spills on the floor, but you know the cleaning crew comes in the afternoon, so you return back to class. What could you have done to be more accountable and compassionate?

Practice Positive Behaviors -

Have students practice the 3 above scenarios. Give a glow to each student, “I like the way you… (complete sentence using one of the CARE words)” Ex. Lulu, I like the way you were compassionate in the hallway. You held the door open for the person so that they would not drop their books.” Check for Understanding

- Have the class go to the hallways. Observe other students from other class either en route to the bathroom or water or other destination. Discuss what they were doing to show that they CARE.
