Concession Stand helps with costs
May 2015
Parrish Little League is fortunate to have an outstanding facility for kids to play ball. One building that sees many faces daily is the concession stand. The proceeds from the concession stand help keep the registration costs low for players to be able to play ball.

Welcome to Holland Youth Park
Little League is an organization run by volunteers. The concession stand is no different. The Board of Parrish asks each team, approximately 3 times a season, to supply volunteers to run the front counter by taking orders, calling orders to the kitchen, accepting money and making change (as well as restocking product and general cleaning as time allows). Depending on the number of games being played, having 3 volunteers in the stand at a time usually is enough. Generally, we ask that adults be the ones to volunteer, but as long as there’s one adult, we do welcome 14 year olds (sometimes a tad bit younger) and older to help out. We understand that parents want to watch their player play and often hear the complaint of not wanting to work in the stand while the game is being played. However, history has taught us that if a team is assigned, but doesn’t have a game, that the team doesn’t have anyone show to work in the stand. So teams are assigned duty when a game is scheduled. If there is a rainout on the night the team is assigned, the concession stand duty is reassigned to the rainout make up game night. On a typical weeknight, the volunteers are asked to work from 5:30 to 8:30—3 hours. Most teams have a minimum of 12 players. If parents gave 1 hour in the stand (times 3 parents per hour) that’s 9 parents—working an hour each. Saturdays are a little different as we are open longer as almost every team plays at the park. Those days are typically divided up between 3 teams, with the time being pretty comparable. Parrish Little League strives to provide an affordable program for children. One way to do so is providing a concession stand with the proceeds going back into the organization to keep costs down for players.
Parking at the Park Parking, especially on a Saturday can be a source of frustration. With games at 10 AM, 12:30 PM, 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM (and sometimes 8 PM), parking can be a premium. Weeknights can be a bit easier as there’s usually just one set of games beginning at 6 PM. If parking in the upper lot, please pull as close to the cyclone fence on the south and the briars on the north to allow for a line of traffic down the middle of the lot. By doing this, there is enough clearance for an emergency vehicle to get down into the lower park.
and batting cages. There is a sandwich board that indicates that beyond that point, it is permit parking only. Notices will be placed on cars without permits that park in the permit area reminding the driver that a permit is needed. Towing is a possibility. The rest of the lower park is for general parking as well. The corner at the back of field 4 (the left field of the 90 foot diamond), there is room to park cars a couple of rows deep. Please be courteous by not blocking in cars and park behind the signs.

Selling Meatsticks is another way to help out Little League allows one player fund raiser per season. For several years, we have asked players to sell Tillamook Meat Sticks. This, along with the concession stand, helps keep costs down for registration costs and provides scholarships for families in need. When turning in monies to the team parent, please take the time and allow the team parent to count with
you for accuracy. Additionally, it helps if change is put into bills. This simply speeds up the process for you and the team parent. For the team parent, when meeting with the fund raising coordinator, please know that it will take a few minutes of time as well. Monies will be counted and verified. Please plan to turn in funds on Saturday, May 2 at the park.
All Star information More information will be available the first part of June for All Stars. If a player has been an All Star previously and is selected for a team this year, please be aware that a new jersey will need to be purchased. The style of the previous jerseys is no longer available. All Star teams are made up of players from the AAA, Major and Jr. Levels.
Help keep the park clean Please help keep the park clean by placing trash in the garbage containers placed near the bleachers for each field as well as around the building. It’s important to make sure the lid is shut as our non-human park goers (crows and ground squirrels) enjoy the remains left on the food wrappings, but don’t pick up after themselves! If a lawn chair breaks, a stroller collapses, or a sun awning no longer works, please take these larger items home to be disposed. Those items quickly fill the garbage containers if they are placed in them. Leaving a damaged product next to a garbage can or leaning up against a building means that someone from the league (a volunteer board member usually) has to figure out how to dispose of it.
