This is not a book about the suicide of my father, This book is not about the time I came home and the living room was drowned in blue lights, as my sister was suffocated by reality I didn’t create these photos as a symbol behind my tears This is not because I ran and you lost the comfort behind my shadow This book is an aftermath of a time, a place and the last breath I shared with you.

Petals

By Stephen Thomas

Petals are of a delicate nature, their life span short, their colours fade. The fabric of them, We can disrupt the surface with a single touch. The smell stained into our skin, a constant reminder of their former presence. We are seduced by this beauty, a beauty with a purpose to decay A bond that was temporary, a memoir from yesterday.

Step into the white noise Bask in the interruption Allow yourself to forget Lose your identity Seek gravity within memory Erase memory Redefine memory Step into my white noise I am contained in the echo of memory

Like a cigarette to a fingertip, your scent is burnt beneath my being Tainted by a moment of nostalgia, I stare at your mirror I look you in the eye, with no contact I touch your skin, with no sensation I communicate, with no response I am looking for a remedy to remember So I stare at your mirror once more But now I see a reflection Just a reflection of myself I am holding a flower towards a stranger A flower that grew in the dark

You carved into the signature of my skin Your pain was a sculpture of question You moulded yourself into my gaze You indulged in my innocence You are the birth and the death I fall backwards, into a bottomless cradle Yet I keep falling, to understand how bones break To understand how this came to be To seek the beauty in destruction Filling the cracks in a shared void With the seduction of rehabilitated memories.

You are a flower I am using you to declare my love You are a flower I am using you for decoration You are a flower I am mourning over you You are a flower I tore your roots You are a flower I’m reaching for you You are a flower Your once bright colours fade to grey You are a flower Desperate for hydration Creating a bond that ended yesterday

I only saw you a while In that time I never saw you cry No vulnerability to pain You kept your persona invisible I only saw you for a while I only saw your colours fade
