Texas improves to 39-28 (.582) all-time in NCAA Tournament play, including a 73 (.700) mark under head coach Karen Aston. The Longhorns are now 5-4 all-time when playing as a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Texas has reached 24 wins for the third consecutive season. Third-seeded Texas will face sixth-seeded N.C. The Longhorns won the rebound battle for the 29th time in 32 games this season, out-rebounding the Sugar Bears, 55-23. Texas reached 50 or more rebounds for the eighth time this season. The Longhorns are 8-0 in those games. The Longhorns shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field in the first half. That was the highest first-half only field goal percentage of the season for Texas. All 11 Texas available players scored in the game on Friday.

Junior point guard Brooke McCarty scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Longhorns. McCarty has scored in double figures on 27 occasions this season.

o McCarty had three three-pointers in the game to increase her career three-pointers made total to 178. She needs two more three-pointers to surpass Kim Lummus (179) for sixth place on the school’s all-time career three-pointers made list. o McCarty has led Texas in scoring on a team-best 17 occasions this season. o McCarty was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and dished out three assists in 29 minutes of play. Freshman guard/forward Joyner Holmes was just one rebound shy of her ninth career double-double. She finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Holmes also finished with four assists and blocked two shots. Senior center Kelsey Lang played in her 136th game at Texas, which moves her into sole possession of fifth place on the UT all-time career games played list. Her 136 games played in a career are the most of any UT player since 1983. o Lang finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 19 minutes of play. o Lang increased her career blocks total to 179. She needs three more blocks to surpass Tiffany Jackson (181) for sixth place on the school’s alltime career blocks list. Sophomore forward Olamide Aborowa brought down a career-high six rebounds to go along with four points and two blocks, both of which tied her career highs.
