Dear Parents, It was lovely to catch up with so many of you at the recent fireworks event and parents’ evenings; thank you to all who helped make the event such a success. I have been informed by the Friends of Powick Primary School that they have raised in excess of £1800 for the school. Well done!

Computing update Since, with the support of the Governors, our investment in a class set of laptop computers, we have been able to begin the long and vital journey to integrate Computing into the teaching and learning at Powick School. Interestingly, it has become apparent that there has been a general migration away from keyboard skills as children and their families have adopted tablets as a primary means of electronic learning, communication and entertainment. The current National Curriculum (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/239033/PRIMARY_national_curri culum_-_Computing.pdf ) has placed less explicit emphasis on the kind of skills we might expect to use when working with software you would associate with ‘Microsoft Windows’ (word processing, creating presentations, manipulating text and images, saving and retrieving work) but it is important that these skills are still addressed as they will undoubtedly be crucial in both further education and in the workplaces of the future. With this in mind, all staff have been asked to include elements of teaching and learning that can address these learning needs as well as developing teaching and learning from the new curriculum.
