PS 145M School Leadership Team (SLT) Meeting Notes: 11/30/17 In Attendance: Dr. Natalia Russo (Principal - CSA Rep) Mrs. Lorenzi-Morales (Chairperson) Ms. Jayne Figuera (UFT Delegate - Note Taker) Mr. Mark Basta (Teacher - Special Education) Ms. Leyda Cruz (DC 37) Ms. Noreen Sadiq (Parent At Large) Ms. Yassiel Nieves (Parent - PA President) Mr. Marcello De Bernando (Parent At Large) Ms. Olga Iliachenko (Parent At large) I. Opening We reviewed and made corrections for the next WITS lab session. We approved the minutes. II. We reviewed the date of our next meeting. It will be held on 12/21/17. III. Dr. Russo:  Data sheets – The teachers have been asked to collect information about students and share it with families so that they become aware of what their children are being assessed on. The data sheets are banks of information that are continuously updated. They can always refer to it to find out where children stand in their classes. The assessment data is taken for Literacy (Reading/Writing) and Mathematics. Our next round of assessments will take place in December.  The Writing Curriculum we use is from Teacher’s College. Writing pieces are scored using a writing rubric. The original writing unit has been adjusted in order to offer one that is more child-friendly.  Dr. Russo distributed data sheets to parents in order to further explain how the sheets are to be read. She explained the different types of assessments and how many times they are conducted, as well as what the expectations are for each grade. Dr. Russo also explained MOTP and MOSL.  The Leader in Me: Children are taught social skills, life skills, etc. The program, among other things, emphasizes children taking ownership of their work. Dr. Russo distributed copies of the book The Leader in Me to the parents in the meeting. We would like to address the issue of students coming to school late each day.  Our Winter Spectacular will take place on 12/15/17. We need volunteers to help with the show. Dr. Russo will reach out for meals for the volunteers.  12/1/17: Middle School applications are due  Upcoming: Potluck by PA  12/21: Holiday Staff Party  Next week: second round of F&P reading assessments “Coming together is the beginning. IV. PA President Report:  This month the parents are focusing on becoming a Non Profit organization. The bylaws have been approved and were translated in English, Spanish, and Russian.  The first “Gingerbread” workshop will be conducted on 12/9/17. Appetizers will be served. There may be a craft table included in the activities.  There will be a dance on Friday December 8th for grades 3 – 5. The kids fellowshipping together will be the focus. V. Ms. Figuera:  K, 4th, and 5th grade celebrated their first publishing parties.  Pajama day was a huge success.  K-5 teachers have begun their Informational Writing units.  Teachers continue to use and share information through the Google Drive Account. VI. Mr. Basta:  The male staff members are participating in a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It is called “No-Shave” November. The goal is to raise $500.00 for the organization. VII. Mrs. Lorenzi-Morales:  Instructional Focus – We need to continue to look at areas of growth and create plans to help support our students. We need to always monitor our students and establish clear instructional goals. We need to develop a community in which we all work collaboratively.  She spoke about teachers meeting to reflect on our students' work, to see what can be improved on. This is what the city expects us to do in terms of instructional focus.  Update on Safety Committee – The school has conducted 6 of 8 evacuation drills for this period. The school bus drills have already been completed. The safety plan was submitted and approved. Everyone was given an updated list of food allergies. It is very important that all parents submit the required paperwork for both allergies and medications.
