Regina Pats @ Saskatoon Blades - September 15th, 2012 The Saskatoon Blades wrap up their exhibition schedule by hosting the Regina Pats in the first game of the year at the Credit Union Centre. The Blades are looking to move their pre-season record to 3-1 as they have won their last two games against Prince Albert and last night in Regina against the Pats. Pre-Season Game Three Recap The Saskatoon Blades moved their pre-season record to 2-1 on Friday night with a 2-1 win in Regina against the Pats. The Blades go the game-winning goal from 2nd year forward Brett Stovin 6 minutes into the 3rd period as he took a feed from Jessey Astles on a 2 on 1 and beat Pats goalie Matt Hewitt high glove side. The Blades survived down the stretch thanks to a pair of fantastic saves by Saskatoon-native Patrick Johnson as he played the second half of the game after replacing Andrey Makarov at the mid-way point of the game. The Blades got their other goal from Travis McEvoy, who opened the scoring midway through the second period. The Pats lone goal came from Saskatoon-product Chandler Stephenson as he finished off a 2 on 2 rush early in the 3rd period. The two teams combined to go 0 for 10 on the PP, despite entering the game with the top two rankings on the powerplay in the WHL so far this pre-season. Current Roster Totals The Saskatoon Blades entered 2012-13 training camp with a roster of roughly 80 players. Yesterday it was announced that they had re-assigned defenceman Ross Hnidy to the Saskatoon Contacts midget hockey club. The team also announced that forward Luke McColgan had been released from his tryout and that he would report to the Battlefords North Stars of the SJHL. After these latest moves, the Blades roster currently stands at 25 with 3 goalies, 8 defenceman and 14 forwards still on the squad. Upcoming Schedule Following tonight's pre-season finale, the Blades have 6 days off before they open the regular season on September 21st against the Raiders. The Blades home opener goes the next night, on Saturday September 22nd against those same Raiders. Prior to the game, the Blades are hosting a season kickoff tailgate party at the Credit Union Centre starting at 4:30PM. There will be a little something for the whole family and everyone is invited to attend.
