Saskatoon Blades @ Regina Pats - December 9th, 2012 The Saskatoon Blades (14-14-0-1) finish off their weekend home-and-home with the Regina Pats (11-17-2-2) this afternoon. The Blades are winners of 6 of their past 10 games and are coming off of a 9-0 win last night in Saskatoon against the Pats. Blades Last Game The Saskatoon Blades ended a two game losing streak last night with a convincing 9-0 win over the Regina Pats. The Blades got a 4-point performance from Matej Stransky, while six different Blades registered multi-point games. Offensively, the Blades got three goals in each period. The goal scorers included Adam Kambeitz, Nick Zajac, Brenden Walker, Nathan Burns, Dalton Thrower, Matej Stransky (2) and Josh Nicholls (2). On the blueline, Duncan Siemens added a pair of assists in the game while going an impressive +7. Saskatoon outshot Regina 44-15, with Andrey Makarov earning his 3rd shutout of the season. Saskatoon was 7 for 7 on the PK and 0 for 5 on the PP. Previous Meetings Tonight's game marks the 4th meeting of the season between the Blades and Pats. So far this season, the Blades are 3-0 against Regina, outscoring the Pats by a count of 18-5. The games have broken down as follows: 3-2 win in Regina - October 30th - Josh Nicholls 2 goals, Shane McColgan had GWG at 13:03 of 3rd period. 6-3 win in Saskatoon - November 9th - Josh Nicholls 2 goals, Shane McColgan 1 goal and 3 assists. 9-0 win in Saskatoon - December 8th - Matej Stransky 2 goals and 2 assists, Josh Nicholls 2 goals and 1 assist. Returning With A Bang The Saskatoon Blades got a boost to their lineup last night against Regina as defenceman Dalton Thrower returned to the team after missing 11 games with an upper body injury. Thrower made an immediate impact, scoring one of the nicest goals of the season for Saskatoon as he picked off a pass in the neutral zone, rushed it in around a defender and tucked the puck home to make it 4-0 Saskatoon in the 2nd period. The goal gives Thrower 2 goals and 7 points in 14 games so far this season. The Blades are starting to get healthy again as Brett Stovin returned to the lineup against Spokane two games ago, while Shane McColgan also recently returned to the lineup after suffering an upper body injury during the Blades BC Division road trip in November. Player Of The Month Staying Hot Saskatoon Blades forward Matej Stransky was presented with a watch from Heinrichs Jewellers prior to the Blades last game as he was named Player Of The Month for November, but it's clear the big Czech winger is still red hot. After leading the team in scoring with 15 points in 11 November games, Stransky registered a 4-point night last night against Regina. The Dallas Stars prospect has 5 points so far in December including 3 goals and 11 PIMs. Final Game For Makarov The Saskatoon Blades are about to begin life without their starting goalie, again. Andrey Makarov is set to leave Saskatoon on Monday as he heads to Russia for selection camp for their world junior team. If Makarov makes the team, it will be the second straight year that he will represent his country at the event. The 2nd-year Blades starter is playing his best hockey of late, including posting 6 wins in his last 10 games with 3 shutouts over that span. Makarov ranks 5th in the WHL in minutes (1607), 6th in saves (841) and is T-1st in shutouts with 3.
