Saskatoon Blades @ Regina Pats - September 14th, 2012 The Saskatoon Blades close out their exhibition season with a home and home against the Regina Pats. The Blades travel to Regina on Friday night, then play host to the Pats at the Credit Union Centre on Saturday night. Saskatoon comes in with a pre-season record of 1-1 after splitting a two game set with Prince Albert last weekend. The Pats also sit at 1-1 in the exhibition year so far after facing off against Brandon last Thursday and Friday. Pre-Season Game Two Recap The Saskatoon Blades won their first pre-season game of the year last Saturday night as they dumped the Raiders 6-3 in Warman. The Raiders were up 2-1 after 20 minutes, despite Saskatoon coming out to a quick start and outshooting PA 15-5 in the first frame. In the second period, the Blades bounced back with 4 goals in the frame to take a 5-2 lead. Darren Dietz added a third period tally to make the final 6-3. The other Blades goals came from Brenden Walker, Brett Stovin, Duncan Siemens, Christian Stockl and Matej Stransky. Newcomer Brenden Walker was named the first star as he posted a Gordie Howe hat-trick in the victory in front of the sold-out Warman crowd. Current Roster Totals The Saskatoon Blades entered 2012-13 training camp with a roster of roughly 80 players. Following their pair of recent games against the Raiders, the team announced their latest set of releases. The team re-assigned Linden Penner, Derek Davies, Nathan Alalouf, Nick Gomerich, Ryan Pruden, Evan Polei and Landyn Hickmott. The team also announced that they had added Luke McColgan via tryout. He's the brother of Blades forward Shane McColgan. The Blades also traded a conditional 2014 WHL Bantam pick to Vancouver for forward Logan Harland. After all these moves, the Blades roster currently stands at 27 with 3 goalies, 9 defenceman and 15 forwards. Upcoming Schedule As mentioned, the Blades wrap up their pre-season schedule on Saturday night against the Pats. Following that, they have 6 days off before they open the regular season on September 21st against the Raiders. The Blades home opener goes the next night, on Saturday September 22nd against those same Raiders. Prior to the game, the Blades are hosting a season kickoff tailgate party at the Credit Union Centre starting at 4:30PM. There will be a little something for the whole family and everyone is invited to attend.
