RESCUE discovering how the Gospel rescues and redeems us

U NIT 6: the go spel i s cost ly lesson 48: Rescued? The World Will Hate You

Dear Parents, This week we explored a very important, yet difficult reality for teens to grasp. As those rescued by Christ, we are at odds with the world. The very things most teens strive to avoid − isolation, mockery, rejection, etc. − are part of the life of every active believer. Understanding that we are not alone in this endeavor is critical. While we may be at odds with our culture, we are one in the Kingdom of God. We looked at the following Scripture passages: • John 15:18-21 • Matthew 10:34-36 Take a few minutes to look over these passages. As you are encouraged by the calling to stand out for Christ, share with your child how you find the strength and courage to do so. Remind them that the world isn’t against them, per se, but rather against the Gospel of Jesus.

Next Steps . . .

During the next week as you have time to talk with your teenager, remember that one way that will help him or her to understand and apply what he or she has learned is to explain it to someone else. Use the following questions to guide your conversation: • W hat kinds of things make you feel like you stand out in an awkward way as a Christ-follower? • Is there a way that you have chosen to take a stand and be different? • W hat Christian friends can you count on to stand with you when you make counter-culture decisions? Share with your teen about a time when you have felt at odds with the culture. How do your convictions make you different from your unbelieving peers? Thank you for all you do and for who you are! If you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
