Visit ou R Ath l etic FAc il ities The Bruder Athletic Fields are located in close proximity to the Mirenda Center and the Living and Learning Center residence halls. The men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams play on a lighted turf field that has seating for more than 400 fans. The Bruder baseball and softball fields were renovated and reopened for the 2013 season and now have seating for fans, press boxes and spacious dugouts.

The Mirenda “Center for Sport, Spiritually and Character Development®” is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as home to the university’s 21 NCAA teams. The men’s and women’s basketball teams and the volleyball team play home games in the main gymnasium, which seats approximately 1,200 spectators. The 72,000-square-foot building includes a grand foyer with impressive exhibits that feature five themes that connect sports to the Franciscan tradition: Play, Respect, Beauty, Balance and Reflection. The Mirenda Center houses the “Institute for Sport Spirituality and Character Development®” and the Athletic Department and is fully equipped with weight and cardio rooms. IceWorks of Aston, a 1,000 seat facility approximately one mile from campus, serves as home for both the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams. The men’s and women’s tennis teams play on the lighted Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Fund Memorials Courts.

The women’s soccer team has moved its way up in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) and will look to qualify for its fifth straight postseason appearance in 2014. Emily Sanders is the leading returning scorer as she netted seven goals and two assists in 2013. She led the team with three gamewinning tallies. Ashley Hawkins notched five goals and two assists as she made her return to the field. Sanders and Hawkins will be the force on the front line. Alexa DeRose will guard the midfield. She netted five goals and is key in the Knights free kick and corner kick situations. First Team All-Conference honoree Becca Burkhart will anchor the backfield in front of keeper Briana King. In over 1600 minutes in net last season, King had nine wins and a goals-against-average of 1.64 with four shutouts. “We want to continue to build on what we accomplished last year by coming together as a stronger team and supporting each other to achieve our goals,” said head coach Lauren Sciocchetti. Key newcomers that will look to make an immediate impact on the filed in 2014 are Midfielders Lexi Casper and Kahlyn Ford, forward Vanessa Damiaini and defender Destiny Speller. Neumann gets the 2014 season underway on August 30 when it travels to the City College of New York. Did you know neumann’s original name was Our Lady of Angels College (OLA)? Meet heAD coAch lAuRen sciocchetti Lauren Sciocchetti begins her second season at the helm of the Neumann women's soccer program for the 2014 season. During her first season, the Knights went 10-8-1 overall and 8-2-1 in CSAC Action. Neumann advanced to the CSAC Semifinals. Three members of the team were named All-Conference. Sciocchetti came to Neumann most recently from Swarthmore College, where she has been an assistant coach since 2008. She also worked with the EPYSA Olympic Development Program from 2008-12. Before Swarthmore, Sciocchetti was an assistant coach at Centenary College, also part of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), for three seasons. Coach Sciocchetti was an assistant soccer coach at Widener for one season. Sciocchetti holds a USSF Class C Coaching License. Before beginning her coaching career, Sciocchetti was a four-year letter winner and a three-year starter at the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, she served as team captain in 2001 and 2002, was the team’s leading scorer in 2002 and in that same year received the Eyetooth Award for Most Valuable Player. Sciocchetti earned her Bachelors of Science in Economics and Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. She went on to earn her Masters of Arts in Counseling from Centenary College in 2009. Sciocchetti is employed by Pathways PA – Center for Families and currently resides in Havertown, Pa.
