RMAC Player of the Week Cara Cromwell Metro State Freshman Fort Collins, Colo./ Rocky Mountain HS Cromwell went 4-0 over the weekend including going 2-0 in No. 1 Singles with victories against Colorado Mesa’s Kaylee Davis, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, and Hannah Shepherd of Montana State-Billings, 6-1, 6-1. Together with teammate Alicia Holm, Cromwell also went 2-0 in No. 1 doubles against CMU and MSU, Billings.

2013 RMAC Women’s Tennis News & Notes Colorado Christian University (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) Team Notes: CCU’s match at Western New Mexico, scheduled for March 29, was moved to Pueblo, Colo., and rescheduled for Sunday, April 7. Prior to that match, they will host Colorado Mesa and MSU Billings in home conference bouts on Thursday and Friday. Colorado Mesa University (5-9, 1-1 RMAC) Top Player: Kristyn Wykert (Freshman, Alomogordo, N.M./Alamogordo HS) Wykert posted a 3-1 singles record, with her only loss coming to Stephanie Catlin of Division I foe Northern Colorado. She won all her other singles matches in straight sets, dropping just 11 games in six sets. In doubles, Wykert and partner Skyler Nelson went 3-1, losing to Northern Colorado’s No. 2 team of Chrissie Hoolahan and Claire Uhle. Wykert and Nelson were the only CMU doubles team to win versus Metro State, winning 8-2 over Marianne Evangelista and Sam Schall. On the year Wykert is 5-6 overall in singles, and her overall doubles record to date is 6-6. Team Notes: Colorado Mesa split a pair of duals in Billings, Mont. in their opening weekend of RMAC action. CMU swept host Montana State-Billings on Friday, 9-0 before falling to Metro State 5-4 on Saturday morning in Billings. Versus Metro State, the Roadrunners took an early 2-1 advantage winning points at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. CMU and Metro split the six singles matches for the Roadrunner to edge out the Mavericks 5-4. Shannen McNamara (No. 2), Kristyn Wykert (No. 3) and Nicole Lessley (No. 6) each posted singles victories for CMU. In action last week, Colorado Mesa went 1-2 on the road as the Mavericks opened up their spring break with a trip to Nebraska and Montana. CMU fell to former RMAC foe; Neb.-Kearney 6-3 on Monday at the Grand Island Tennis Center in Grand Island, Neb. Tuesday the Mavericks swept Hastings College 9-0, before falling to Division I Northern Colorado, Wednesday in Greeley, Colo. Against Hastings, CMU allowed just five games in six singles matches. CMU swept the doubles action squandering just a single game in the 9-0 team victory. Against Division I foe Northern Colorado on Wednesday afternoon, the Bears proved to be too strong and deep, defeating CMU 7-0. UNC was challenged at No. 2 doubles as Wykert and Nelson fell 8-5. CMU will continue league play on the road this weekend on the Front Range. The Mavs will play at Colorado Christian on Thursday before meeting CSU-Pueblo and Western New Mexico in Pueblo, Colo., on Friday and Saturday. CMU will play a non-league match at Colorado College on Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colo. Colorado State University - Pueblo (2-5, 1-2 RMAC) Top Player: Gia Montoya (Freshman, Pueblo, Colo./Central HS) Montoya failed to score a win for the ThunderWolves, but she fared the best among her teammates in singles play, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Western New Mexico’s Maria Monier at the No. 4 position. Metropolitan State University of Denver (4-9, 3-0 RMAC) Top Player: Cara Cromwell (Freshman, Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) RMAC Player of the Week Montana State University, Billings (0-13, 0-2 RMAC) Team Notes: MSUB fell 9-0 to Colorado Mesa and 6-3 to Metro State in their opening weekend of conference play. They wrap up their regular season in Pueblo, Colo., this weekend, taking on Colorado Christian, CSU-Pueblo, and Western New Mexico April 5-6. Western New Mexico University (4-14, 0-1 RMAC) Top Player: Ganna Tiurina (Sophomore, Kiev, Ukraine) Tiurina won her top flight match against CSU-Pueblo’s Teresa Haro, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In doubles, she partnered with Ashley Newell to win at the No. 1 position, 8-0, against the ThunderWolves’ pair of Katie Howe and Gia Montoya.

Preseason Player of the Year Rodrigo Almeida Western New Mexico Junior Arapongas, Brazil Nene Lourenco HS RMAC Player of the Year in 2012. Almeida was 19-4 in singles matches while leading the Mustangs to the RMAC regular season and tournament titles. He was also chosen as the WNMU Scholar Athlete Award winner after being named RMAC Academic Player of the Year.

Preseason Player of the Year Ganna Tiurina Western New Mexico Sophomore Kiev, Ukraine Was RMAC Freshman of the Year and a unanimous choice for first team allconference in 2012. Tiurina and doubles partner Nikolina Vukadin were also selected first team All-RMAC. This fall, Tiurina recorded two wins over players from NCAA Division I schools.
