Table Top Games Event On Wednesday 28th January Sifa Butt (4W), Danish Muhammad (6R), Brendan Bratby (6R) and Joshua Ingham (3T) took part in a selection of activities at QEGS sports hall with Mrs Holden, Mrs Hodgkinson and Miss Hussain. Their effort and behaviour was outstanding and they had a great time doing trampolining, table tennis and table top cricket!
Easter Egg Decorating Competition This year we will be having a traditional Easter egg decorating competition on Wednesday 25th March. The children are asked to decorate a single egg to fit in an egg cup and bring it in on that day. The children can decorate the egg using any materials that they wish and prizes will be given to the best egg in each class. All children that enter the competition will receive a chocolate egg for their efforts.
Parent Governor Vacancy We are currently in the process of appointing a new Parent Governor. We have received 2 nominations and an election has taken place which closed at 3.30pm on Monday 9th March. Parents will be notified of the outcome in due course. New Website We have recently had our website reconstructed so it now looks slightly different. We hope to make it easier for parents to find the information that they need and all the information that was on the previous website has now been migrated onto the new one. The website is a good source of information about the school and you can find all our previous newsletters in the ‘Parent Information’ section. The web address for the new website is exactly the same as the previous one:
Mid-Year Reports You will receive the mid-year report for your child this Friday 13th March. This will inform you of your child’s effort and attainment in English and Maths as well as their attitudes and behaviour. The expectations for the end of each year group have risen considerably in the new curriculum as the Government’s intention is to further raise standards of English and Mathematics across the country. Your child has been assessed recently and the midyear report will inform you whether your child is on track to meet the end of year expectations. It will also include a target for your child to work on to help ensure that they meet these expectations. You will be able to discuss this with your child’s teacher at Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 18th March.
Use of Car Park We would like to remind you that the school car park is for staff only. We are extremely short of space in the car park and we have had some instances of parents parking there at the beginning and end of the school day which has caused congestion and visitors to be blocked in. Please allow yourself enough time to find an appropriate place to park out of the school grounds at the beginning and end of the school day. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Parents’ Evening Parents’ Evening this term will be on Wednesday 18th March 3.30 – 7.30pm and you will have received a letter for you to book a time to meet your child’s teacher. We hope that all parents will attend to find out how well your children are progressing with their learning. If you are unable to attend please make an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher on a different day.

Choir visit to MEN Arena On Monday 2nd March the school choir visited the MEN Arena to take part in the annual ‘Young Voices’ concert. Along with Miss De Piano, Mrs Parker, Mrs Holden, Mrs Haworth and Mrs Whittaker the pupils enjoyed an afternoon and evening of singing in front of a large audience. The behaviour of the children was excellent and we are very proud of all the children that took part. A big thank you and well done to them all as it was a very late night for all involved!

Year 6 SATs
Building Works Update
Our Year 6 pupils are currently preparing for their SATs tests which will take place during the week beginning Monday 11th May. The pupils are being well supported by the Year 6 teachers and teaching assistants and we have also been lucky to receive excellent additional support for the children in Maths from Mrs Procter from Pleckgate High School.
We are currently in the process of completely refurbishing and extending the school dining hall and kitchen and the new kitchen is now up and running. The next stage of the works is to take out the old kitchen and then this will become an extension to the dining hall. The work is expected to be completed for the start of the summer term. We are very excited about this project and the new kitchen looks amazing! When the work is finished parents will be invited to come and see the results – more information about this will follow in due course.
Dance Festival On Tuesday 3rd March the school dance club attended the Blackburn with Darwen Schools’ Dance Festival at King George’s Hall. Mrs Campbell, Miss Dickinson, Miss Collins, Miss Frankland and Mrs Holden accompanied the children who have all worked really hard over several weeks to perfect their dance routine on the theme of ‘Technology’. It was a fantastic event enjoyed by all and the behaviour of the children was exemplary. Well done to everyone involved!
You will have seen that the old mobile classrooms have now been removed and contractors will soon be on site to work on building the new classrooms. There is likely to be some disruption to the path around that part of the school and we will inform you of developments on this project in due course.
Red Nose Day 2015 Red Nose Day this year is this Friday 13th March. Children are allowed to come in non-uniform and we are asking them to ‘wear a funny face’ for the day for a £1 donation to the charity.
