LAFAYETTE LEOPARDS 6-9 Red Flash Softball Field w Loretto, Pa.

SCHEDULE/RESULTS

TODAY’S GAME NOTES The Saint Francis softball team welcomes Lafayette on Thursday for a midweek doubleheader at Red Flash Softball Field. Today’s games will be webcast on NEC Front Row. The Red Flash is 15-12 this season and has won six straight games after three wins at the Cherry Blossom Classic last weekend. CHECK THE SCOREBOARD Saint Francis has 10 or more runs in nine different games this season and 10 mercy-rule victories. That’s already the most double-digit run games in a season for SFU, topping six in 1988 and 1994. The Red Flash is also just six home runs away from setting a new season record. NEC SWEEP For the second time this season, the Red Flash swept the NEC Weekly Awards. After helping SFU to a 3-0 weekend at the Cherry Blossom Classic, Madison Cabell, Ketarah DeVries and Hayley Norton were honored for their efforts. SFU has won NEC Player of the Week all five weeks the award has been handed out. SFU also has four of five NEC Rookie of the Week and two NEC Pitcher of the Week honors.

DeVries and Ethel Santai combined for a No-Hitter in the seasonopening win over UNC Wilmington. Norton had three hits, including two home runs, and six RBI. She went 2-for-3 with four RBI on Saturday, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning. SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS Lafayette is 6-9 this year after splitting Tuesday’s doubleheader against Howard. The Leopards face George Washington on Wednesday before taking on the Red Flash. The Leopards are hitting .278 as a team and averaging 3.73 runs per game. Samantha Sweigart leads the squad with a .326 average, with 15 hits. She has three doubles and four RBI. Brooke Wensel has driven in a team-best nine runs, while Maddie Wensel leads the team with two homers. Lafayette has a team ERA of 3.98 and an opponent batting average of .272. Stephanie Thomas has a team-best 3.63 ERA in 36.2 innings. Thomas has a 1-6 record in nine appearances. Lindsey Cherry is 1-1 in five appearances with a 3.63 ERA in 17.1 innings.

Cabell had six hits this past weekend, including two doubles and a walkoff homer. She drove in six runs, with three hit performances in both games on Friday against Canisius and Cornell. Cabell hit a tworun, walkoff home run to left in the bottom of the seventh to give SFU a 5-4 win over the Big Red. DeVries threw a five-inning No-Hitter in Saturday’s mercy-rule, 13-0 win over Cornell. She struck out six and allowed only one walk, a oneout walk in the first inning. DeVries then retired the next 14 batters for SFU’s first individual No-Hitter since Laura Caldwell on April 14, 2008 vs. Central Connecticut State.
