2016 UTSA Roadrunners Football UTSA 31, North Texas 17 Saturday, Oct. 29 Alamodome · San Antonio, Texas North Texas Postgame Quotes Head Coach Seth Littrell Opening statement … “The biggest thing was the slow start. Too many three-and-outs early. We didn’t get the running game going with the running backs as well as we would have liked to. And then the big stat that we talk about every single week is the turnover battle as a team and explosive play battles. When you turn the ball over four times you’re not going to win many football games.” On UTSA making the plays to force the turnovers … “They had to make the plays. You have to give them a lot of credit. But we had some stupid turnovers.” On his decision to run Mason Fine so much tonight … “Some of those we run-pass options and some of them were, you know, with the coverage [UTSA] was playing. Especially when they were in man [coverage]. You empty out the box and you got five for five. If you get everybody blocked up and there’s no run support, you have guys running with their backs turned to you so there’s plays to be had if you can get through that initial level. He did a good job on some things that way, but again we had too many turnovers and too many negative yards plays.” On their slow defensive start … “I thought we were good in spurts. Obviously we put them in some terrible situations, but you have to give credit to their offense. They came out and they did a nice job. Their backs caused some problems in the run game and I thought their quarterback managed the game well. To me that’s the most important thing for a quarterback. You have to be able to manage it. We just made more mistakes than they did. They played a more complete game than we did.” On getting to six wins after tonight … “I don’t even look at that. I honestly don’t. It’s one game at a time, one week at a time. If you do the things necessary to prepare the right way, success will happen. We still have a lot of games to play. I’m looking forward to getting home next week and going against another quality opponent in our house.” Mason Fine, Fr., QB On the game tonight … “Overall as a team we didn’t come out here and execute. We missed some things. Individually, as a player, I didn’t play good. That’s how it is overall. I made some terrible mistakes. I made some wrong reads and I just had an overall bad game. I’m going to hit the film room, watch film, learn from it and move on. That’s all you can do.” On why it was a struggle on the offensive end tonight … “Every game you’re going to hit adversity and you just gotta overcome it. I guess we just couldn’t get in a rhythm early and it just snowballed from there. In the second half we started moving [the ball], but we just shot ourselves in the foot with the turnovers and stuff like that. Me, personally, I have to limit the turnovers when I’m in a bad situation.” On why he rushed so much tonight … “That’s just Coach [Graham] Harrell trying to put us in the best situations. We ran the ball well, but I’ve got to avoid the sacks. Sacks are going to hurt. I’ve got to find a way to not take a sack and put our team in a bad position.”
