NEWS & REMINDERS This Week in 2-Brooks . . . Phonics/Spelling: List #9 was sent home Check out our classroom web site on pennmanor.net. today. All of the words have long o spelled 11/18-Picture retakes (bring picture with either –oa or –ow, as in –boat and –snow. package back with you) The test will be next Monday, cycle day 6. I 11/24-Native American Day (1:30-3) have now added 2 dictated sentences to the – If you would like to be in charge of test. I will say the sentence out loud and the a group; write me a note. students will have to copy it down correctly. 11/25-11/30-No school for Each word, capital letter, and punctuation will Thanksgiving Holiday count for points. Dec. 4 (6-8:30 pm) PTO Santa Grammar: We will be learning that proper Workshop nouns name specific people, places, and animals and should be capitalized. Reading: We will read a fantasy story called, Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type. The focus skill will be identifying the plot of the story (the beginning, middle, and ending). Writing: We are writing a paragraph about things we are thankful for this Thanksgiving. Math: In Chapter 4 we are subtracting double digits with regrouping. We are learning how to rewrite a horizontal problem into a vertical problem so it is easier to solve. Also, we are using addition to check our subtraction work. The problem solving strategy is solving 2 step word problems. Our chapter test will be on Friday. Social Studies: We will next discuss the shelter and food the Eastern Woodland Native Americans built and grew. Most tribes lived in either the longhouses or wigwams. The crops that were most important to them were the 3 sisters; corn, beans, and squash. They always grew them together in the garden. Hunting, fishing, and gathering nuts and berries were also ways they got their food. With all of our lessons we are making a small craft and taking quick quizzes.
