REHOBOTH BAPTIST ASSOCIATION

THE RECORD Volume Volume XXXV XXIX September, April, 2006 2012 Number Number 74 Church 2 Church Helps Recently at one of our “Church 2 Church” Gatherings for bi-vocational Churches, the following questions and answers surfaced. This might be helpful to all.

Questions to consider: • • •

What was it that got you “hooked” on church? How can we ensure that others experience the same things that “hooked” us? How does your church offer Truth, Mission, Authenticity, or Relationships?

It was interesting. Most of the people answered the first question by saying they were “hooked” by Truth and Relationships. We all need answers and absolutes, and we all long for genuine friendships and fellowship. Some of the answers to Question #2 were: 1. We need to help our Pastors and teachers prioritize their ministries of the Word! Encourage their education and training. Value their weekly preparation as a significant part of time management and important ministry. 2. Speak the Word to real life problems in our world. What is God’s Word on matters that matter? 3. Practice what we preach even if it costs. Live it when it counts. 4. Become a person’s genuine friend. Disciple as you go. Let discipleship happen in authentic relationships. 5. Build ministries that build relationships. Don’t stick to programs that wear out your people, or limit growing relational experiences. There were three other questions that were asked and discussed briefly: • • •

How do we overcome a poor reputation? Whose responsibility is the reputation of the Church? Where does a church’s reputation get formed?

I’ll save the answers given to these last three for another time. This is a beginning point – asking the right questions! I hope these are some questions that you and your Church are asking, too! God Bless! Kent Pate Executive Director

The prayer guide that is found on the 40/40 Prayer Vigil Web site (4040prayer.com) can be used by an individual, a small group, an entire church body, or an even larger group. Here’s how: • First, decide if you want to use the prayer guide as a personal guide to 40 days of prayer or ask others to join you. • Second, decide if you want to pray for forty days or forty hours. The Guide is designed to support either of these options. * You can pray once each day between September 26 and November 4, for forty days of prayer. * You can pray for forty hours, between 4:00 p.m. on November 2 and 8:00 a.m. on November 4. • Third, if you decide to make this a group effort, “To change lives we must create a sign-up list and ask first be changed. The IRS checks the convention annuals to prove that a church is entitled to tax-exempt status.
