Serger Club November 2015 Crazy Patch Christmas Stocking Pamela Leggett, Instructor
[email protected] Serger Club Supply List Our Serger Club for November is a crazy-patch style Holiday Stocking. It will demonstrate a fun and easy quilt piecing method (similar to log cabin piecing), serger cording and a great construction technique. I am hoping that even if you decide you do not need a stocking, you will come and learn the techniques, which would be useful to future projects. But keep reading – there is a bonus project, too! Keep Your Stocking or Give it to a Good Cause We have arranged with Laurel House, a local shelter dedicated to ending domestic violence, to donate stockings for the holidays. If you are able to donate stocking stuffers, bring them with you to club, whether you keep your stocking or donate it! Some suggestions are: Hand/body lotion; Scarves/mittens; Fuzzy socks; Make-up; Nail polish; Candy/food; Stationary; Lip Balm; Small toys; Items for boys or girls; Crayons/markers What to bring for the class: Serger, neutral color thread, set for 4-thread stitching Basic sewing supplies Small rotary cutting mat (something that can sit next to your machine at class. It will be used for trimming small pieces), small ruler, rotary cutter. 5mm cording foot. If you do not own one, you can borrow one at the class. Fabric: If you look at the picture of the stocking, you will see that a 4” “fussy cut” square is used for the focal point in the center of the stocking. Check your stash for something like this, or just cut any 4” square of fabric
1/3 yd fabric for lining 12” X 17” fabric for the stocking back 4 – 6 strips of christmas colored fabric. Cut these strips into various widths, 1 ½” – 3” wide. They do not have to be the full width of the fabric – use your scraps! Piping fabric – you will need about 1/3 yd to cut into bias strips for the piping
*** If all this fabric and cutting seems too much for you, email me no later than 11/19 and I will put a kit together for you for $15.00. ***
Bonus Project – new from Pamela’s Patterns – HandWarmers! Imagine….A fingerless glove that is comfortable, useful (you can use your phone while wearing them) and definitely fashionable! Everyone will want a pair for the holidays and they take only minutes to make. The unique design uses only one pattern piece and a clever origami-style technique to create a thumb piece that is very comfortable. Pamela plans to have this pattern available as a PDF download at Pamela’s Patterns starting in December, but you get the pattern – FREE – for coming to Serger Club!
Bring: 1/3 yd fabric for this project. You can use polar fleece, heavy sweatshirt fleece, sweater knit – you can even bring in a sweater to use as fabric!
