Welcome To Fifth Street Presbyterian Church Our purpose for meeting together today is to meet with our Lord as a body of believers. We meet that we might hear Him speak in the reading and preaching of His Word. And, we meet to respond to His voice in our songs, prayers, and affirmations. In the ordinary worship of God we find extraordinary grace, encouragement and reason to hope. This corporate worship of God is the most important thing that happens upon the earth and we are delighted to have you with us as we approach the Father in Christ’s name by the power of the Holy Spirit.

ANNOUNCEMENTS July 31, 2016 Tuesday is our monthly men’s meeting at TGI Fridays. We meet to encourage the development of conversations about things that matter. Our desire in that these conversations will have eternal significance and carry into the rest of our lives. Join us at 6 p.m.. You can order a beverage, a snack or a meal to enjoy with our discussion. Mark your calendar for our quarterly Fellowship Meal Luncheon after the morning worship, next Sunday, August 7. This is always a great time for fellowship around a meal. Please bring food to share and feel free to bring a guest; it is a great way to introduce others to our church family. The Pulpit Plan: For the month of September Pastor Simmons will be on sabbatical and Ryan Henton, Clint Covington, and Tom Duke have graciously agreed to fill the pulpit (a.m. and p.m.). Pastor Simmons will be out for 5 Sundays. Beginning on October 9, we will take a break from our study of The Psalms and give our attention to a study of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians. As always, you are encourage to do a bit of reading before we begin our study – being somewhat familiar with these epistles before we begin our study will be a great aid to your understanding what Paul wrote under the power of the Holy Spirit. Watch for the next Women’s Study to be announced later this Fall. Chapter 47 of our Book of Church Order has some helpful reminders about public worship. For the next few weeks we will include some of these on the announcement sheet as space permits. Here is the first installment: 1. Since the Holy Scriptures are the only infallible rule of faith and practice, the principles of public worship must be derived from the Bible, and from no other source. The Scriptures forbid the worshipping of God by images, or in any other way not appointed in His Word, and requires the receiving, observing, and keeping pure and entire all such religious worship and ordinances as God hath appointed in His Word.
