SPRING 2012

Dear Customers, We are excited to announce our 2012 Spring Newsletter and Calendar! Doesn’t the word Spring sound exciting? We have so many fun things coming up: two great sewing/embroidery retreats (in Provo and St. George), new classes, new events that are going to be fantastic, and great new store improvements in both of our locations. We are excited to introduce some exciting new products too. We also just launched a brand new website at www.davesbernina.com. The website has been completely redesigned from top to bottom to make everything easier for our customers. It is easy to find class descriptions, pictures, and dates for all our classes. Specialty Classes, including SewWhatever, can be scheduled online and paid for there too. Visit our website regularly to stay up to date on upcoming classes and events. And sign up for our online newsletter on our website or in our store to stay up with all the upcoming events. Our 2012 Spring Newsletter is our largest newsletter ever because we have so many fun classes and events over the next four months. We have not included a calendar or Retreat Registration forms in this newsletter. If you would like a registration form for one of our Retreats, just go to our website and download it or drop by one of our locations and we will give you a copy.

Looking for more coupons and specials? Go to facebook.com/davesbernina and like us. We will give you a coupon, and then you can watch for other coupons and specials just for our Facebook friends.

Thursday Night #1 Orange Peel Window Quilt 1-901 by Chris Chamberlain Thursday 7:00 – 10:00 PM

This quilt is made out of circles, with an embroidered design in the center of the circles. You can make it in any color or theme that you like. It can pretty much be any size you like too! The simple assembly is called the Orange Peel method. Come try this technique, which is even easier when you use the BERNINA Circular Embroidery Attachment. (You can accomplish much more in class if you have your designs embroidered before the retreat!)

#2 “Embroider that Hoodie!” 1-902 by Nina Cooke Thursday 7:00 – 10:00 PM

Take a minute and find a hoodie on sale! There are great prices this time of year. You can embellish it with a design from “Best of Fashion” (available free during your class time), or use another design of your choice. Rev up your creativity genes by expanding the design area on the hoodie. This would make something comfy for you to wear or a nice gift. Everyone’s will definitely be a one of a kind.

#3 Home Time Table Runner 1-903 by Paula Jordan Thursday 7:00 – 10:00 PM

It’s the little things that help make your house a home. Join us and make this fun table runner to remind you of just that. We will be using both your sewing and embroidery machines to appliqué and make this fun project. It’s a delightful project that we hope to get done in class!

Friday 9:30 AM – 12:30

Are you afraid of your computer or simply unfamiliar with it? Come learn the basics of computers and how to get your designs from a CD, USB Stick, or your computer to your machine. This class will help you organize your designs on your computer and the many ways to get them to your machine. Come have fun and explore your computer with me.

#5 Tags for Everything! 1-905 by Tracy Larson Friday 9:30 AM – 12:30

We will be embroidering tags. You can choose from many different tags: such as a sewing machine, computer, serger, spool of thread, antique sewing machine, quilt block, square ruler, rotary cutter, and much more. Those are just some ideas to get you thinking about what you could “tag” as yours. We will be personalizing them with names as well.

#6 Attic Winter Cheer Window Quilt 1-906 by Paula Jordan

Friday 2:00 – 5:00 PM Part 1 Friday 7:00 – 10:00 PM Part 2 In part one of this class, you will piece a small quilt top. In part two you will learn the ways to quilt it with your embroidery machine. There is time to get a lot done in this two-part class, so make sure to have your machine and supplies ready to create!!!

#8 Heather Feather Quilt 1-908 by Maxine Lostetter Friday 2:00 – 5:00 PM

This is a Sarah Vedeler pattern. If you have taken any of her classes or used her CDs, you know that her designs are beautiful!! We will be making four blocks with the hearts design on it. If you want to make a quilt from this pattern, just take this class and you will learn all the basics of what to do. Cutting this out is so easy with the Accuquilt Go! Or Go! Baby, and the new die cuts available will make it easy and very accurate to cut the shapes. It will make a great table topper or a wall hanging. Be creative and pick out your own colors!!!

Friday 9:30 AM – 12:30

This quilt is fun because it is designed to feel like you are looking in or out of a window. Traditionally this quilt uses “Y – seams’ (which can be scary), but we will be doing it with a half square triangle instead. Join us as we embroider the pictures that will be seen out our windows. If you did the embroidery at our Design Studio in January then you will able to put your quilt together. If not you will get a little of both steps done.

After we have quilted it, we will then cut it out and sew this easy cover. It will protect your machine and bring fun color into your sewing room.

“Fabricadabra!” is one of the latest quilts from the studio of Jenny and Simon Haskins. Come make a beautiful quilt or just a beautiful pillow! It is “sew fun” making a quilt with the embroidery machine. Just push the button and let the machine do most of the work for you. Design Builder Machine Quilting Class

By Renae Allen from RGA Design LLC (Design Builder) Renae Allen established RGA Design LLC in 2006 and introduced her new Skillbuilder machine quilting products at The International Spring Quilt Market in 2007. She continues to develop new products which include fabric, books, CDs and DVDs for quilters who are interested in improving their machine quilting skills. As a Home Economics graduate from Brigham Young University, teaching others came naturally. Her business evolved from her passion for teaching and her love of fabric, sewing and quilting. Renae began sewing in elementary school and has been stitching one thing or another since that time. She resisted quilting for years, wondering why anyone would want to cut big pieces of fabric into little pieces, sew them back together again and still not have something lovely to wear. That all changed in 1999 and now she wholeheartedly endorses the art of piecing and quilting, especially machine quilting. Renae and her husband, Andy, live in Brigham City, Utah. They are the parents of five children and grandparents to thirteen grandchildren. 1-201 Class Fee $10 + supplies March 16th 1:30 – 4:30 Explore design possibilities and improve free motion quilting skills using Design Builder. Experiment with a variety of marking and transfer methods and then quilt different design shapes and styles on six different blocks, two borders, plus sashings and corner posts. The quilted panel can then be bound and used as a small quilt, a delightful apron, a fun bag or hot pads using free download patterns. Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn from a great teacher that teaches all over the country!
