GCAA U6/U8 Week 10 Fall 2017 Category: Technical: Ball Control Difficulty: Beginner
Activity #1 - 6 Surfaces (10 mins) 6 Surfaces Each player has a ball, have the players dribble & use 6 different surfaces to move the ball in one fluid motion without stopping; EXAMPLE: Laces, Inside, Outside, Bottom/Sole, Toe, and Heel. After the players complete the 6th surface they should change direction & then restart the sequence with the ball on opposite foot. Once the players have shown proficiency have them do it faster, in smaller space, or change the surfaces or the order. 6 Surfaces: Laces, Inside, Outside, Bottom/Sole, Toe, and Heel. Coaching Points: What are the surfaces of the foot you can dribble with? (laces, Inside, Outside, Bottom/Sole, Toe, and Heel) Why should you try to keep the ball close? (so you can get more touches and keep control of ball)
Activity #2 - Gate Passing with Pirates (15 mins) Gate Passing with Pirates Separate players into groups of 2, 1 ball per pair. Select 2-3 players to be the Pirates. The Pirates try to intercept/steal the ball from the passers. Passers score by completing a pass between the gates. If the Pirate steals the ball, he/she tries to dribble through a gate to get a point. The passers have to get the ball back from the Pirate. Play 3 rounds, rotating the Pirates. Coaching Points: What surface of the foot should you use to pass? (inside, toe, or laces if facing your partner) Where should the player receiving the ball take their first touch? (toward the next gate with either the inside or outside of the foot)
Activity #3 - 3v3 to Goal (15 mins) 3v3 n a 20Width x 30Long grid with a 5-7yard wide goal at each end, divide the players into 2 teams. Coach serves the ball in from the sideline. Each team has 3 players on the field, playing 3v3 (no goalies!). The game ends when a player dribbles the ball through the goal. Extra players rotate in once the game ends. If the ball goes out of bounds, the game is over & coach restarts with new players. Progression: players can now shoot or dribble through goal to score. Coaching Points: When is it a good time to try and score? (any time you see an open goal) If you can't go to goal or forward what should you do? (pass the ball backwards or sideways so you can find a new way to score from a different angle)
