WHYFC GK Training - Session 15 Category: Goalkeeping: Distribution Difficulty: Moderate

Description

Warm Up (5 mins) Title: Pre-Practice Warm Up Description: GK starts on their goal line and moves with the ball at their feet between 12-18y and back. i - Dribble up/back with right, Drible up/back with left, Both feet, Soles. ii - Ball is stationary at the 6 keeper comes to collect sationary ball on floor iii - Ball is in the hands of the gks and they backspin toss to collect iv - Ball is in tossed in the air and gk collects above head v - Seated, Kneeling, Standing to two stationary balls Progression: 1) GK moves entire time without stopping; 2) GK can start from diving position; 3) GK can dive to balls Coaching Points: 1) Dynamic GK movements; 2) Focus on core and push/pull mechanics; 3) Focus on ball through the series

Double Save (10 mins) Title: Double save tracking Description: Groups of four to five work on sending 4 balls inside the front post and middle post from both sides. GKs work on the technique of coming forward to make a save and then getting out to the ball for a save. Progression: 1) Back post runner added; 2) Find the outlet pass; 3) Punch saves that can not be caught. Coaching Points: 1) Get feet set quickly; 2) Body behind everything; 3) Soft hands and comfortable elbows

Put it in the mixer (10 mins) Title: Put it in the mixer Description: Players break into four crossing areas and are numbered 1 - 4. The Coach calls out the number and the server can either serve it in the box or play it into target. The target has two touch max to either turn and shoot or play the ball back for a shut. Progression: 1) Add defenders; 2)Add attackers; 3) Only have one ball rotating around the outside Coaching Points: 1) Know where you are going before you make the call; 2) Call the ball loudly, confidently and early; 3) Anticipate the flight of the cross

Read the cross (15 mins) Title: Reading the cross Description: 1) Defender serves ball out wide then steps on the field to defend against the two attackers. The GK comes for balls off the cross and can have a go on the other keeper. Progression: 1) Add back post runner; 2) Add defenders; 3) Allow the game to be open Coaching Points: 1) Starting position; 2) First step in direction of ball; 3) Communication to defenders
