Spring 2014 What Have We Been Up To? The Epsilon Gamma Chapter at Western Carolina University has accomplished a lot this semester! We raised over $2,000 for Autism Speaks, participated in numerous on-campus philanthropy events, received Five Pillar Status from the university, hosted a formal, initiated 14 new sisters, and said “see you later” to our wonderful seniors.

This semester, the chapter raised over $2,000 for Autism Speaks through various fundraising events. These events included a homerun derby, a date auction, a Xi Man Pageant, trail mix bars, and our annual autism awareness walk, Walk Now for Autism Speaks.

Helping Out in Our Community In addition to all our hard work for Autism Speaks, we also spent numerous hours helping out other organizations’ philanthropic efforts, such as Dance Marathon and Tuck River Clean Up. Dance Marathon Each year, Alpha Xi Delta participates in Dance Marathon for Children’s Miracle Network. Dance Marathon is a 12-hour event where WCU students dance in honor of children who are battling various illnesses. This year, we helped raise over $13,000 for CMN!

Tuck River Clean Up Alpha Xi Delta also gets into gear to clean up the Tuckasegee River each spring! On April 12, sisters joined Base Camp Cullowhee and cleaned up trash along the riverbanks of the Tuck… on rafts! We had a blast!

Xi Best Our chapter, once again, received the Five Pillar Status Award at the Celebrate Excellence Awards this spring. The Five Pillar Status is granted to Greek organizations who not only meet all requirements set by WCU, but also go above and beyond those standards. We could not be more proud! Fun Fact: The Epsilon Gamma Chapter has been a Five Pillar Chapter every year since the award has been given!

Coming Up Our active sisters are taking a much needed break for the summer, but we are excited for the upcoming school year! We are in the process of renovating our house to include hardwood floors, fresh paint, new furniture, and more! Homecoming Homecoming 2014 is October 24-25. The active sisters will participate in the annual homecoming parade, which takes place in downtown Sylva. We would love to see your faces in the crowd! We will also host our annual homecoming brunch and tailgate before the football game on Saturday. More information on this event will be released closer to date.

Alumnae Association Dear Sisters, Here is a brief update concerning our new Alumnae Association. The Epsilon Gamma Alumnae Association is just beginning. Membership dues are $100 per year or a one-time payment of $500 for a lifetime. In just a short period of time, we have received membership support from three “Lifetime Members,” and membership commitments from many other sisters that are in the process of joining. We are in the process of projecting a budget and are beginning to plan for the 2014-2015 school year. Organizationally, we are investigating our opportunities to obtain non-profit status and for registering with Alpha Xi Delta National Head Quarters. Our goal is to spend all of the funds collected for dues, donations, and interests earned on the active Epsilon Gamma Chapter. This group will be dedicated to the continuous improvement and support of the active chapter. Our mission will be to provide financial assistance, mentorship, guidance, education, and leadership opportunities when needed. We plan to fund leadership and educational workshops, as well as help individual sisters that may face financial hardships from home or while at school. We plan to budget for our sisters’ graduation gifts and to participate in our annual Founders’ Day Ceremony. Anyone wishing to pay their dues or to make a donation should make their checks out to our Margaret Witt (Financial Advisor) and note in the memo line the specifics of the contribution (i.e., Alumnae Association). Meg’s address is: Margaret Witt 2733 Judes Ferry Rd Powhatan, VA 23139 Please include an email address, contact phone number, and mailing address. Upon receipt, an email confirming the deposit date will be sent for each check received. We thank you in advance for your support! As always, we appreciated your suggestions and feedback. Please plan to be at Western Carolina University Homecoming this fall, as we will hold the first meeting at that time. Xi Love, Epsilon Gamma Chapter Advisors
